We should never lose sight of the idea that most fundamental to a peaceful and prosperous society is the fulfillment of the hopes, aspirations and dreams that people have for themselves, family, friends and what they value most. Culture has always been a vital cornerstone, bringing joy, meaning and a prism of opportunity to express and engage with our inner selves and the people and ideas that surround, shape and reshape us. At The Leap, like many funding and support organisations we want to help people and places to thrive - to enable ordinary people, to have agency, to do extraordinary things that can make the biggest difference. But very often, people don't want to do big things, to scale, grow or change systems, they simply want to do things that just really matter to them in places and spaces that are.most meaningful to them. That's why I believe that small amounts of money often alongside volunteers and some well targeted help is equally as important as ideas that can generate investment and create impact at scale. At The Leap, collaborating with Calderdale Council, we are doing just that with The Leap into Culturedale Awards, to give people who may not otherwise, in areas with the least opportunity, step forward with creative ideas, and have a go at making meaning and bringing joy through arts, culture and heritage. Clean air is still out of reach for many, even in the United States. New York City’s Washington Heights neighborhood is one such area significantly affected by poor air quality. This stems from a mix of infrastructure challenges and lack of green space. Jayden, a Futures Ignite Youth Leader and NYC public school student, is working to create solutions for his community. Our newest project with the Simons Foundation showcases Futures Ignite’s work, which empowers young people, like Jayden. Through this initiative, students address issues like racial justice, educational equity, and climate justice. Futures Ignite envisions a world where every student achieves their full potential. By combining leadership training enrichment beyond traditional academics, and hands-on experience, the program equips students to succeed in their  community and beyond. The USBC Black Investment Report, unveiled during the 2024 USBC BLACKprint Policy Brunch in September, sheds light on the current investment landscape for Black businesses. In partnership with Robinhood, the report was presented by Mary Elizabeth Taylor, Robinhood's VP of Global Government and External Affairs, Olivia Nutter, Founder of Impact Insight Partners, and Talisha Bekavac, USBC's Executive Vice President. The report examines financial challenges, investment trends, and opportunities within Black communities, providing actionable steps to close the capital gap. It underscores the importance of financial literacy, equitable access to capital, and strategies to close the wealth gap, empowering Black Americans to build generational wealth and economic independence. It was a great opportunity to learn more about diverse businesses and how we can enhance existing partnerships and create new connections to strengthen service to our customers.
