CALL FOR SUPPORT! PLEASE SHARE! We don't believe that LinkedIn is just a platform for spreading success stories, but for activating the network when support is needed. That moment has now arrived for our project. As most of you know, we are working on building the European Underwater Research Station and deploying it in the Mediterranean Sea. We have spent a great deal of time building a robust and sustainable concept that addresses all areas of the endeavour. Hundreds of inputs from high-level specialists have been incorporated into this concept, so that we are not the only ones convinced of its feasibility. With regard to all previous projects of a similar nature, we have not only focussed on the construction and deployment of the Habitat system, but in particular on a long-term, sustainable and meaningful operation. Now there is only one hurdle left before the BAU moment. In order to submit the official application for EU funding, for which we already are in a promising evaluation process, we now need additional partners who could imagine taking their existing support to a new level, participating as newcomers in an exciting and pioneering project, or recommending us to appropriate contacts. The hurdle to overcome is lower than one would think and offers an opportunity to various goals including contribution to the preservation of the marine habitat. We would like to ask all other contacts to share and spread this post. We would promptly provide interested parties with the necessary information and outline any opportunities for collaboration. For information please contact Frank Scharmann #diving #underwaterhabitat #space #esa

🌍 Innovative Infrastructure in the Faroe Islands: The Underwater Roundabout and Sandoy Tunnel The Faroe Islands have made international headlines with the construction of the world's first underwater roundabout, located in the recently opened Eysturoy Tunnel (11.2 km). This roundabout, artistically illuminated and designed, resembles a jellyfish situated 72 meters below the Atlantic Ocean for a cost of around 1 billion DKK. In addition to the amazing roundabout, I also experienced a remarkable feat of engineering and infrastructure. The completed Sandoy Tunnel, an 11 km long tunnel that connects the islands of Streymoy and Sandoy, is an achievement that not only improves communication and accessibility but also sets a new standard for cost-effectiveness. Completing such a project for less than 860 million DKK is nothing short of a technical and economic triumph. These projects are not just technological, economical and logistical achievements; they also represent a significant investment in the region's future, which will promote economic growth, tourism, and improved living conditions for the residents. For those interested, I recommend taking a look here: https://lnkd.in/dC8jZQAg #Infrastruktur #NCC #Ingenjörskonst #Färöarna #HållbarUtveckling #Innovation #tunneling #infrastructure #faraoislands

At VAST Landscape Architecture we aim to continually evolve our knowledge and understanding of geomorphic landform design.
GeoFluv study trip 2024 - looking at implemented designs and reference sites in Alaska with Nicholas Bugosh, Matti Sormunen, Camilla Esberg, Harley Lacy, Ramón Sánchez Donoso, Peter Wihlborg, Ben Coleman, James Nixon, José Francisco Martín Duque, María Tejedor, and Rod Eckels. Our earth is shaped by the same processes, whether in Australia, Sweden or Canada. Identifying corrent reference sites gives us confidence our designs will perform similar to the stable, mature landforms we are aiming to replicate. These have been shaped by 1000s of years by fluvial processes. Simply, we are compressing time and using Mother Nature’s recipe to design a mature landform from the beginning with the aim of returning mined land to people and nature. #mineclosure #geomorphicdesign #sustainablemining

The beach enlargement project at Ponta Negra, Natal / Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil The work to widen the sand strip at Ponta Negra beach, in Natal, was recently suspended because the sand being dredged from the licensed deposit was not compatible with the native sand on the beach. As a result, the company CARUSO JR was hired to search for a deposit that had sand with compatible grain size and sufficient volume for the project. Through hydrographic, geophysical and geological surveys, supported by collections of samples from the seabed, CARUSO JR identified a deposit with good quality sand potential and sufficient volume to meet the project needs. We are on the fourth day of resuming the beach enlargement project and we can already see changes in the coastline due to the amount of sand brought by the dredge from the new sedimentary deposit located 10km towards the open sea, a deposit that was identified by research by the company CARUSO JR. As you can see, the sand is compatible with the native sand of Ponta Negra Beach, which is composed of medium-sized sandy sediments and is therefore of excellent quality for this type of work. The change in the beach landscape can already be seen when comparing the area that is being restored to the part of the beach that has been eroded and has not yet been restored. This is a coastal engineering project that allows for the restoration of beaches that have suffered from intense marine erosion processes, affecting public assets and private properties, as well as altering the daily lives of beach users and causing economic losses to merchants and the hotel industry, since tourism is the city of Natal's main source of income. We will be monitoring the progress of this project on Ponta Negra Beach, bringing you news whenever possible about the progress of the project in this location that is considered a postcard of the city of Natal.

Introducing Giannicola Tumino PE, Coastal Engineer Gianni has been a Coastal Engineer with SEI for 5 years and recently just obtained his PE license (Congrats Gianni!) and works in our Waimanalo and Nimitz office. Gianni has agreed to offer his insight into his life here at SEI. Read his thoughts below. 1. Tell us a little bit about what you do. My work includes a little bit of everything... Fieldwork is my main scope of work lately, primarily performing bathymetric and land surveys using sonar and RTK GPS systems. Dive work is also a big part of my job which includes benthic surveys, instrument deployment, and coral relocation/restoration. In addition to fieldwork, I assist with the engineering design of coastal structures. 2. Can you tell us a few details about the favorite part of your job? Easy! Traveling around the Pacific Ocean and meeting ocean-enthusiastic people is my favorite parts of my job. I feel grateful to travel and experience the sea life of these remote islands. 3. What is the most interesting project you've worked on here? Long term monitoring work is probably the most interesting. An example is coral relocation/restoration efforts. This kind of work typically requires multiple surveys after the initial placement of the corals. As time passes it’s noticeable how the artificial reef grows and thrives. 4. What do you think makes our team culture unique? Everyone in the company is fascinated by the ocean in one way or another. I can say that the ocean is our happy place, and that makes us unique. 5. What is your favorite hobby? Surfing and freediving are at the top of my list, but too many to list… any activity that is in the ocean is game on! 6. What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out? That is a hard question to answer… would be easier to find out as you get to know me.

Advocate for a globally competitive #AUSTRALIANFUSIONENERGYINDUSTRY with strategic communications expertise.
Build Fusion energy generators Your talk as Nuclear (meaning only Fission) and fails to talk about fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M You are, as the nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising and innovative method of producing sustainable and clean energy. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what news is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fission fuel shortage is increasingly real, as linked below. https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr
