The lesser known Jag from the very early 90s - the Jaguar XJR-15! In the late 1980s, Tom Walkinshaw (TWR) came up with the concept for the XJR-15, after seeing the XJ220 at the British Motor Show. His vision was a road-going version of the XJR-9 race car. Peter Stevens was brought in to design the car for the road, while Walkinshaw worked with Jaguar Cars to develop the rest. Although it is important to note, TWR was in the driver's seat in terms of overall development. It shares the same monocoque, chassis and suspension with the Le Mans-winning race car, although modified for the road. The XJR-15 sports a 6.0L V12 making 450 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. This power was routed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission, or an optional Syncromesh 5-speed manual transmission. Total weight was just north of 2300 lbs (1015kg). This was good for a 3.2 second 0-60 km/h time and a top speed of 191 km/h. As mentioned above, the car was designed entirely by Peter Stevens. He wanted a wide, low look on the outside. While he was inside he wanted it to feel raw. Carbon fiber accents throughout, a Nardi steering wheel, seat harnesses and headsets to communicate with the passenger (or drown out the noisy engine). Very few creature comforts to talk about, other than a few smoky gray leather seats. And some fun stuff, the XJR-15 was the first all-carbon fiber production car built too. It was a real racing car for the road. Speaking of production, 53 original examples were made in total. Of these examples, 27 were built as street cars. The other examples spent time as race cars in a series called the Jaguar Intercontinental Challenge, which was short-lived. Eventually the race cars were sold.
