Last week, a couple of members of our Communications Working Group visited Fielden Hall to plan for our Rentier Valley event on 14 November. We’re particularly excited to be holding an event at Fielden Hall as it’s a great example of the work we’ve done over the last 10 years to create vibrant places, spaces and homes in the Calder Valley. The Land Trust secured ownership of the building back in 2016 and turned it into an asset for the community that is now used by 2,000 people each year. More recently, we’ve been exploring how we can make the building more energy efficient. Our current retrofit project at Fielden Hall is forecast to reduce energy bills by 41% and CO2 emissions by 87%. Event attendees can find out about our Fielden project and more at our event: 📆 14 November ⏰ 7 – 9pm (with option to arrive from 6pm for an informal chat with one of our team) 📍 Fielden Hall, Ewood Lane, Todmorden Book your spot: https://lnkd.in/eNPvw_GC

Perth is set to welcome delegates to this year’s highly anticipated Scotland's Towns Partnership Conference on Wednesday 27 November. The theme “Investing in our Assets for Sustainable Towns of the Future” promises insightful discussions and an opportunity to connect with forward-thinking organisations in sustainability. Leader of Perth and Kinross, Councillor Grant Laing, will highlight the transformational work being taken by our Vacant and Eyesore Property Taskforce. He said: “Our Vacant and Eyesore Property Taskforce has been developed to work in partnership with property owners/businesses to help them access funding to refurbish and bring properties back into use. “Empty and disrepaired properties do not present an area in its best light and can limit further investment. They also disrupt the sense of community and vibrancy of an area. These buildings often lead to other problems such as anti-social behaviour, vermin, fly-tipping and fire-raising. “Encouraging the re-use of empty properties or the repair of buildings suffering from neglect brings in more footfall for local businesses and adds to the vitality, amenity and civic pride of the area. All of this brings significant benefits to our local centres, including improved economic performance. “This type of work is something the Council has prioritised, and you can see the success we had with St Pauls Church and the former Perth City Hall, now Perth Museum. “I look forward to welcoming Scotland’s Towns Partnership and its guests to Perth, where we can pass on everything we have learned to delegates from other areas.”

It was great attending last nights Rewilding London event. I got a better understanding of the thought process behind decisions shaping London’s green landscape. I’m definitely planning to attend more NLA events! Key takeaways: 🌿 Greening Urban Spaces: From rooftops to public squares, we need smart strategies to bring nature into high density areas. 🌿 Challenges in Urban Planting: Roof gardens often struggle, plants and bees face tough conditions. It’s about creating resilient green spaces, not just planting trees. 🌿 Long Term Maintenance: Funding and community involvement are essential. Ideas included service charges, volunteer support, and integrating maintenance into development plans. 🌿 Balancing Biodiversity & Carbon Goals: Both are vital, but we’re behind compared to other countries. NetZero means finding harmony between them. 🌿 Educating Communities: Making people feel comfortable with wild urban spaces is key reframing what a greener city looks like. It was inspiring to see London’s potential for rewilding, and I left with a ton of ideas for how we can all contribute to a greener, more sustainable city. 🌍🌿 Acacia management facilities ltd #UrbanRewilding #GreenInfrastructure #SustainableCities #NetZero #Biodiversity

can we create a circular Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park? we believe so here at Hackney Wick & Fish Island Community Development Trust. however, we need key hubs. these hubs should attract research and investment. next year, we'll move forward. our site will be at viewtube, right in the park. here are some project highlights: ↳ our buildings will cut CO2 emissions by 62% compared to traditional ones. ↳ we'll design flexible, reusable modules, focusing on easy disassembly. ↳ our Husk FLBs require no foundation. They're placed on prepared ground. When needed, they can be moved and reused. if you're interested in circular design or have challenging sites, please get in touch. We see great potential in this model. deepest thanks to London Legacy Development Corporation for the award via their Carbon Offset Fund alongside our partners Poplar HARCA and Jon Baker from HUSK & Matthew Higgs from JAW Sustainability.
