I think that autumn is my favourite time of the year. 🍂 Yesterday I went to my daughters harvest service and I feel so lucky and privileged to be in a position where I can take time out to be there. Before I started my consultancy, I was in full time employment. 💭 And I remember that all I wanted, ahead of any other perks or benefits that the company offered, was to always be at these events for my children. ✖️ I didn’t care about free coffee, discounted gym memberships or free branded merchandise. ✖️ I wasn’t interested in the high street discounts available to staff, or the free beer on a Friday. What was important to me was flexibility, and to be trusted to get my work done. I know this won’t be the same for everyone, and some employees will love freebies and discounts. I guess my point is that trust and flexibility don’t cost a company anything to implement, and that these engaged and motivated me so much more than any other costly perks. ➡️ Great benefits don’t have to be expensive. Listen to what your employees want, and respond. You’ll gain so much more in return too; Happy, motivated and engaged employees 😊

I’ve got a weekend job in hospitality. There are times when it’s fast-paced and I feel maniacal, especially peak summer months, but that’s to be expected and I thrive in those situations. It keeps me in shape, too. I’ve worked in hospitality my whole life, even alongside a career. The lasting friendships and acquaintances in my life are the greatest benefits by far, but I can’t not talk about The effects of a Human Resources manager and motivational managers: - high employee morale ☑️ - employee engagement ☑️ - employee satisfaction ☑️ - employee recognition program ☑️ - employee training and development ☑️ - healthy and dynamic company culture ☑️ - monthly communication blasts (emails) ☑️ - tools for communication (Slack and Ceridian apps) ☑️ - open door model ☑️ - monthly birthday celebrations ☑️ - company events (pool party, bowling) ☑️ - contests (knowledge based AND fun random (ex: Oscars awards guesses) ☑️ - bulletin board in break room (so basic but so good!) ☑️ - tv in break room (I get to catch all the scores on break - I live for sports) ☑️ - regular staff polling (via Slack) ☑️ - employee lunch/dinner program ☑️ - perks program!! I escaped the rat race over 17 years ago. I never cared about climbing a corporate ladder. Who the hell needs: - A promotion - A crappy commute - To win employee awards - An annoying boss who sucks - Tp spend decades working a "job" - To live anyone's life except their own - To try to "meet a quota" or outdo company metrics When I can: - Be free to do what I want - Have time with friends and family - Travel whenever and wherever I want to - Swim in my pool at 2:30 pm on a weekday - Choose to work a 3hr day or put in a 15hr day - Tell someone "no" because I dont' want to work with them - Get to workout in an empty gym because it's 1pm on a weekday Here's the thing: - I'm not special - I don't have a masters degree - I'm not particularly smarter than the rest But: - I know EXACTLY what I want - I'll do whatever it takes to get there - I won't let anything get in the way of that - I'm willing to put in all the time necessary to get there Remember this: - Be creative - Be strategic - Be relentless - Be the person you always wanted to be - Be ready to take the life you always deserved No one's going to do it for you.
