Discover the power of power training for older adults! Recent research highlights its effectiveness compared to traditional strength training in enhancing muscle power and functional fitness. 🏋️♂️ The study by el Hadouchi et al. underscores that power training—featuring explosive movements like jump squats and kettlebell swings—not only improves rapid force production but also enhances daily activities such as climbing stairs and standing up from chairs. 🌟 As personal trainers, integrating power training into our programmes can significantly benefit older clients by boosting their independence and overall quality of life. 💪 By focusing on activities that improve muscle power and speed of movement, we can tailor fitness regimens to meet individual needs and goals effectively. This approach not only challenges conventional fitness norms but also empowers clients to maintain physical capabilities crucial for daily living. Connecting exercise to real-life tasks improves population health. In this episode of Feel Strong Fitness, host Justin interviews Nicholas Perugini to explore the critical role of understanding the intention behind exercises and how that can transform both client education and long-term success in fitness and rehabilitation. It’s not just about the movements themselves—it’s about knowing why we’re doing them and how they impact our everyday lives. Whether it’s mastering single-leg plyometric work for agility or strengthening quads for stair-climbing, understanding how specific movements relate to real-world activities builds trust and motivation. By making these connections clear, clients can see that what might seem like isolated exercises are, in fact, crucial for achieving their broader goals—such as playing sports or avoiding injuries. For coaches and trainers, it’s essential to explain how each exercise transfers to real-life tasks or sports activities. This not only builds trust but also helps clients stay committed to their fitness journey. When clients understand the “why” behind their workouts, it leads to greater buy-in and more focused effort. 🎧 Listen to the full episode https://lnkd.in/ejEUpQpK #FitnessEducation #FunctionalMovement #PhysicalTherapy #ClientEngagement #StrengthTraining #FeelStrongFitness #IntentionalMovement #Coaching #LongTermSuccess

RAISING A PUPPY HELPS ME UNDERSTAND FITNESS - I’m raising this cuttie, Djembe and he’s teaching me a lot about natural growth, curiosity and devilish behavior; lol. We often think that we know what’s best for us and that other people and creatures in the world know what best for them, but that’s not always the case. In the fitness world students and clients make choices that are often not exactly what they’re looking for or not exactly what’s best them. They read articles, listen to advertisements and make their best guess while jumping into classes and routines that might not fit their needs at the time. Here are 5 suggestions for fitness participants: 1. Utilize personalized instruction and therapies like massage, chiropractic services, personal training and mobility coaches 2. Have a strategy that starts with what you can’t do. If you’re weak make sure your strategy includes strength training. If you’re injured or recovering make sure your strategy includes wellness 3. Be a fitness connoisseur and learn as much as you can about anatomy, programming and results and exercise nomenclature. 4. Start with small goals and then be consistent rather than truncating extreme routines that might not be best if you’re new or if you’ve been away from the gym/studio for a while. 5. Watch more and do less! There’s nothing wrong with sitting back in a class or session and watching. This is especially key to practice before you’re gassed. Observing is different than taking a break so be sure to add time for observation into your routine. #gymtips #workouttips #exerciseguidance #gymgoals #fitnessgoals

“I’m afraid of getting injured again”... Got this from a client today. Here’s how I help protect my clients from not getting injured: avoid improper form, imbalanced workouts, and work on any inadequate range of motion issues. Bonus Tips: Never push through pain (there is a difference between pain and muscle fatigue) and your last rep should be your best rep (meaning your form should be the same your first rep and your last). Most fitness programs are not designed for adults over 40, leading to failure in reaching health and fitness goals. The TA4 Fitness Longevity System offers efficient and effective programming tailored to individuals over 40, maximizing results. Join the TA4 Fitness Longevity Program! Navigating the Gym Culture: A Call for Awareness💪 The fitness industry can be a powerful source of motivation, but it also poses significant risks, especially for young people. We've seen a troubling increase in health issues and even tragic outcomes due to overexertion, unrealistic expectations, and the use of illegal substances. Many young athletes and gym-goers often chase the unrealistic physiques portrayed by bodybuilders and celebrities. This constant comparison can lead to poor mental health, extreme workout regimens, and dangerous decisions. As the saying goes, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” It’s crucial that we shift our focus from extreme ideals to sustainable fitness practices based on knowledge and personal growth. Let’s prioritize education and support within our fitness communities. By encouraging proper training techniques and understanding nutrition, we can help prevent tragedies and promote healthier lifestyles. Together, we can create a gym culture that values well-being over appearance. #FitnessAwareness #MentalHealth #HealthyLiving #Gym

Why I don’t run short term programs or transformation contests anymore… In my opinion, although it is important to have goals, the biggest thing about fitness and health is that you have to be able to do it the rest of your life. It’s a use it or lose it kind of thing. So the program has to cover all the bases of what you will need to train for longevity. When I ran short term programs or transformations people would compete hit their goal and then quit afterwards. I don’t want to see that anymore… Most fitness programs are not designed for adults over 40, leading to failure in reaching health and fitness goals.
