Hey Everyone 👋 This post is about when Heritage meets sustainability! ✨ In our Heritage Studio (Semester 2 in Politecnico di Torino), we had the incredible opportunity to work on Venaria Reale, a historic gem near Turin, Italy, and home to the iconic "Reggia di Venaria". This studio challenged us to reimagine how heritage sites can thrive in modern cities while preserving their cultural essence. Our project explored Venaria through two phases. First, we analyzed its strengths (cultural and tourist potential), weaknesses (poor infrastructure), and threats like climate risks. Then, we developed a revitalization plan focusing on green space, mobility, and climate resilience. By enhancing connectivity, reactivating public spaces, and addressing flood risks, we envision Venaria as a sustainable, vibrant, and inclusive hub where heritage and modern life coexist beautifully. ✨ #UrbanPlanning #HeritageStudio #Sustainability #VenariaReale #Heritage #revitalization #Urban #design #urbandesign #HistoricPreservation #ClimateResilience #Turin #Italy #StudentProject #CreativeDesign #CulturalHeritage #Inspiration

🏙 Say hello to Bauhalps, aiming at enhancing the green transformation of the building sector in the Alps and the valorisation of its cultural identity. Who are the project partners? 🙋 Università Ca' Foscari Venezia Foundation, lead partner, together with 12 other partners including a museum and innovation centres from Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Slovenia and Switzerland. What will they do? 🔧 Develop a model to support the green transformation of the building sector, based on the local cultural identity and the capability to implement circularity processes in line with the New European Bauhaus principles (sustainable, beauty, together). 🏡 Test the model and the tools developed to ensure the sustainability dimension in building re-adaptation, but also in relation to local communities and the aesthetic dimension of local cultural identity. 📣 Ensure the use of the model and its transferrability with the support of the local communities. Stay tuned for the next project presentations! 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕? Historical and architectural preservation is about more than just saving old buildings; it's about maintaining the rich tapestry of our collective heritage. Here’s why it’s so important: 1. 𝑪𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒊𝒕𝒚: Preserving historical buildings helps maintain the unique character and cultural identity of our communities. These structures tell the stories of our past, fostering a sense of continuity and belonging among residents. 2. 𝑬𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒖𝒆: Historic buildings serve as tangible links to the past, offering invaluable educational opportunities. They act as living museums, allowing us to learn about historical events, architectural styles, and cultural practices firsthand. 3. 𝑬𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒐𝒎𝒊𝒄 𝑩𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒇𝒊𝒕𝒔: Preservation can boost local economies through heritage tourism, revitalizing neighborhoods, attracting businesses, and increasing property values. Restored buildings often become attractions that drive economic activity and create jobs. 4. 𝑬𝒏𝒗𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚: Restoring and repurposing existing buildings is often more environmentally friendly than new construction. Preservation minimizes waste and reduces the environmental impact by reusing materials and infrastructure. 5. 𝑪𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏: Historical buildings foster a sense of pride and cohesion within communities. They become symbols of shared heritage and collective memory, strengthening community bonds and encouraging civic engagement. 6. 𝑨𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒂𝒍 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒊𝒕𝒚: Preservation ensures a variety of architectural styles and periods are represented and appreciated, enriching the aesthetic and cultural richness of our cities and towns. "Craft is an essential part of the cultural expression of Colombian territories and in the High Andean region, artisan trades hold significant importance. "For Gutiérrez, craft is the foundation of great architecture. 'Everything you see here has been built through workshops of people who have never built before,' she explains. Within the organization’s Sustainable Settlements Department, she has hosted workshops on bio-construction techniques from bamboo, straw bale walls, and natural fiber roofs to composting toilets, alternative energies, and biodynamic agriculture, among others. "'Every time [we host a workshop] we realize that there is something else we’re missing in our understanding of architecture.'" #Sustainability is often seen as a modern concept or a #buzzword that gained popularity at the turn of the #millennium. The 21st century is frequently called the century of sustainable development. But sustainability is far from new. Over 5,000 years ago, ancient #Egypt built a #civilization that left behind treasures, monuments, mummies, colors, and designs that continue to inspire the world today. This wasn't by chance—it was possible because we (previously) respected nature. But it’s never too late! ⏰ Today, we have the opportunity to build beautiful cities, create innovative products, design efficient processes, and offer services that respect nature and benefit everyone. 🎯 Let's learn from history, leverage technology, and, most importantly, cultivate the WILL to create a lasting impact. #Respect_Nature
