Record $300 million support package for Basin communities. Marsden Jacob welcomes the recently announced support for Basin communities impacted by water recovery through the Australian Government’s Sustainable Communities Program. The Program has pledged $300 million to support the development and expansion of Basin industries, community infrastructure projects, workforce development and community support services. These measures will support Basin communities as 450 gigalitres of water is progressively returned to the environment by 2027. The support package has been informed by community feedback, work with state and territory governments, lessons from previous water recovery programs, and the latest research. Carbon Negative from Day 1 🌱 At Green Gap Consulting, one of our core values is embodying sustainability and walking the talk as a company. It’s not enough to just talk about sustainability, we believe in taking tangible actions to live it. That’s why we decided to estimate our carbon footprint upfront for the coming year and offset our anticipated emissions through Credible Carbon, thus becoming Carbon Negative. We chose to support a cause very close to our hearts, one that Linus Naik himself was involved in the project design phase: the Kuyasa low-cost housing project. This initiative focuses on two core energy efficiency pillars to transform the community in Khayelitsha, Cape Town including: 1. The installation of solar water heaters 2. Insulating ceiling and retrofitting housing with energy-efficient lighting The project has also empowered communities through early childhood development projects and food gardens. We’re proud to share that we’re #CarbonNegative this #WorldEnvironmentDay and support an initiative that helps strengthen resilience to climate change.

CIMIC Group companies are committed to delivering sustainable solutions for our clients. For CPB Contractors, UGL and Pacific Partnerships, sustainability was front of mind during the design and #construction of Transport for NSW’s Mindyarra Maintenance Centre which has been recognised with two 'leading' ratings from the Infrastructure Sustainability Council in both the Design and As-Built categories. The project prioritised #sustainability in every aspect of the centre's design and construction, including: > More than 95% of annual operational electricity for the facility sourced from more than 3,200 on-site solar panels > More than 90% of non-potable water demand met by rainwater capture and reuse, aided by a train wash system that recycles its own used water > 100% of landscaping made up of native and drought tolerant species.

So, let’s talk about it: The ban of Cord Wood Permits for Charcoal Production In a significant move towards combating Climate Change, the government through the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia has implemented a ban on the issuance of Cord Wood permits for charcoal production in Itezhi tezhi, Mumbwa, and Shibuyunji districts. This decision marks a significant stride in aligning environmental policies with sustainable practices, and promoting alternative, eco-friendly sources of energy. Charcoal production has long been recognized as a major contributor to deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. Here in Zambia, where the demand for charcoal remains high due to its widespread use as a cooking fuel especially now with load shedding, the exploitation of forests for charcoal production has led to severe environmental degradation and loss of biodiversity. The ban on Cord Wood permits aims to curb this destructive practice. ADVANTAGES 1. The potential to mitigate Climate Change Forests play a vital role in sequestering carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, acting as natural carbon sinks. By banning the indiscriminate cutting of trees for charcoal production, we can preserve our forests and enhance their capacity to absorb carbon emissions, thereby reducing the nation's carbon footprint. This aligns with global efforts to combat climate change and fulfills Zambia's commitment to the Paris Agreement. 2. Promoting innovation in sustainable energy solutions The ban of charcoal production emphasizes the pressing need to explore and invest in alternative renewable and environmentally friendly sources of energy. This shift towards clean energy technologies not only reduces reliance on finite resources but also creates opportunities for economic growth and job creation in the renewable energy sector. 3. Inclusive Development In addition to its environmental benefits, the ban on Cord Wood permits carries profound social implications. Charcoal production often exploits vulnerable communities and perpetuates poverty in rural areas. By promoting sustainable land management practices and empowering local communities with access to alternative livelihoods, Zambia can foster inclusive development and improve the well-being of its citizens. While I note that the implementation of the ban may face challenges such as enforcement and monitoring, the government's commitment to sustainable environmental management sends a powerful message to the international community. Zambia's proactive stance in addressing one of the root causes of climate change sets a positive example for other nations to follow, demonstrating that decisive action is essential to safeguarding our planet for future generations. As a Green citizen, I celebrate this milestone. Bravo Ministry of Green Economy and Environment - Zambia 🌱 Now, let’s plant more trees 🌳 #climatechangeaction #climatemitigation #agreenerfuture #bethechange #plantatree

50% of the world’s land is inhabited by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, with at least one-third of the world’s remaining intact forests on their lands 🌳. Yet despite their critical role in protecting nature, many of these communities often see little of the carbon finance intended to support their efforts due to a lack of transparency and traceability in benefit-sharing. IP & LCs are essential for the success of nature-based projects and and must be remunerated fairly for their efforts to do so. That’s why I’m proud to have contributed to Terraspect whitepaper, From Co-Benefits to Core-Benefits: How to Ensure Carbon Finance is Fairly and Transparently Delivered. Designed for buyers, project developers, and community organizations, this whitepaper offers actionable insights and step-by-step guidance on creating compensation plans that are equitable, transparent, and accountable ✅ Explore the whitepaper today to learn how equitable compensation transforms projects, with case studies from Ghana, Tanzania, Malawi, Burkina Faso, and Panama. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eAQfKZCw The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM), IUCN, Climate Asset Management, Peoples Forests Partnership, Conservation Finance Alliance, One Acre Fund, Ponterra, ERS - Ecosystem Restoration Standard, Renoster, Tree Aid

This #EarthDay we want to shout out some of the amazing environmental work that AMBITIOUS clients are up to... GlobalGiving UK’s tireless work vetting and advocating for local causes makes it easy for companies and philanthropists to make climate impact from all over the world using their dedicated Climate Action fund, covering local projects from around the world including agroforestry in Borneo, conserving coral reefs in Malaysia, tree planting in Madagascar and many more. Barwood Capital recently published its latest Impact Report and over the next year has committed to launching a road map to Net Zero, calculating scope one, two and three emissions for all live commercial developments and residential projects, as well as delivering its first net zero carbon in construction and operation logistics development in Nottingham. Acorn Property Group employ a ‘fabric first’ approach to its developments to improve the thermal performance of the new homes. The developer uses construction methods, materials and technologies to improve heat retention or even generate heat. The outcome is lower carbon, low maintenance homes that reduce the running costs for the homeowner. #EarthDay2024 #ClimateAction #Sustainability
