Teaching young people about the importance of peatlands is critical for the future preservation of our planet. Raising awareness of this often-overlooked topic will enable the next generation to continue to advocate for action 🌿 At Caledonian Climate, we have been fortunate enough to visit local schools to talk to students about the importance of #naturebasedsolutions for our planet's health and climate. By educating young people on the magic of peatlands we not only help to foster a new appreciation for these unique environs but also motivate a future workforce to continue the fight against climate change. Getting young people involved in climate action is something we are passionate about. Take a look at our core values here: https://buff.ly/3HCgVEb #Climatecrisis #PeatlandRestoration #ScottishPeatland #ClimateAction #CarbonEmissions #GenerationRestoration

What are your plans this Saturday, 23 March? Can you spare an hour to take action on climate change? 🌅 Earth Hour is a worldwide movement by the WWF, suggesting we turn off our lights for an hour at 8:30 PM local time as a symbol of solidarity and united action. But it’s much more than just switching off the lights. We’re encouraged to do more and spend the hour focussing on our planet and what further actions we can take as individuals to protect it. 💡 Why not spend your hour exploring the opportunities on our website to #VolunteerForClimate. We’ve got hundreds of climate organisations that need volunteers with skills like yours: https://buff.ly/3Q5FPko 🌏 Let’s support Earth Hour and make its impact last far beyond the day. #EarthHour #CollectiveAction #VolunteerForClimate #SaveOurPlanet

Funders are often hyper-focused on the prevention of future climate disasters. Crystal Hayling, Executive Director of The Libra Foundation says one strategy where funders can support climate work is to focus on the damage that is being done to communities right now. "The delay tactic is asking us to pretend that climate change is only in the future," says Hayling. "Climate change, environmental degradation, and early deaths due to pollution and contamination are happening right now. If we give resources to communities that are fighting these things right now, they are the ones who can develop the solutions that we need to win." #ClimateAction #Philanthrophy #ClimateSolutions #WomensHistoryMonth

Meeting the challenge of climate change requires intentional, focused action. Once again, Boston is leading the way with a proactive approach. This week, Mayor Michelle Wu’s launched the Boston Climate Council to help our city advance climate resiliency measures and encourage the collaboration of various sectors to ensure an aligned approach to tackle climate change and protect our communities. As extreme climate events across our country and the globe become more frequent and the toll they take on individual lives, communities and economic centers becomes greater, it is imperative that we take the necessary steps to ensure a resilient future for generations to come. The Aquarium looks forward supporting this coordinated effort. #BostonClimateActionPlan #ClimateAction https://lnkd.in/eaMVpjBU

“When people ask me, ‘What can I do as an individual about the climate?’, I reply: ‘Don’t be an individual - work together with others.” Building local, community resilience is the best form of practical, long-lasting, effective climate action. Thank you to Euronews for their recent piece on the Climate Majority Project advocating for this approach. https://lnkd.in/eJmhGw2f

We were invited to present at the Legislative Council Environment and Planning Inquiry into Climate Resilience in Traralgon on Tuesday, with Mayor Cr Tom Crook (pictured) and General Manager Assets and Environment Stuart McConnell telling the inquiry that there is critical work to be done, and local government needs support. East Gippsland knows and is experiencing the impacts of climate change, and we are keen to work with all levels of government to strengthen our approach. If we do not invest in preparing for the impacts of climate change, our communities will be impacted more significantly and for longer by climate related events – delaying recovery, increasing the need for support and increasing economic and other impacts.
