The recent TFWA (Tax Free World Association) Summit in Cannes provided ample inspiration for stakeholder collaboration and for ensuring value creation for travelers. The Travel Retail channel is uniquely positioned to be the most dynamic and sought after retail channel across the globe. It will be mission critical to be remain intentional about compelling offers, penetration and conversion goals across every traveler demographic and particularly at the front line. If passenger counts have recovered and sales have not yet reached 2019 levels, then there is clearly an opportunity for an informed, well planned and long term strategic framework because the status quo is not enough. Too much has changed for the industry to rest on its laurels. We must make an honest evaluation and build on our strengths and on exemplary ways of working together. For example: A co-branded activation achieved a new benchmark at $650 CAD / hr tracked at the station and was closely split between the confectionary and spirits offer. A true win win for retailers, brands, consumers and airports and a strong nudge to keep moving forward with courage, with creativity and with shared goals in mind. We are actively modernizing our recruiting and staffing services to better align with industry objectives because quite frankly, the pain points deserve leadership and the gaps deserve expertise, all of which are readily available in the skills sets across the globe. It’s been about a week and a half (blah, too much travel so am slow on this) since Andrea D'Mello and I attended our first National Association of Residential Property Managers Texas Style conference. What a time. This was a smaller event of Texas-based PMs that was really well done at the Archer Hotel in Austin (and the food was actually great, not typical for conferences) - big shout out to Peter Hernandez, Warren Ivey, and the rest of the organizing NARPM team. Here are a few of my takeaways from the event: - Great to meet local PMs, many we didn't know: This event was in Austin, where Boom is based, and it was surprising how many PMs that we met for the first time who were right in our backyard - Even smaller operators want great tools: Boom has gotten a lot of momentum with larger, more regionally diversified operators. Most NARPM operators skew toward the 100-500 unit count. This was our 3rd NARPM conference of the year, and I continue to be impressed by the technical sophistication of even these operators earlier on their growth curve - Broker laws were top of mind: A main theme in conversations as many NARPM members are brokers themselves was the new NAR settlement changes and how brokers can be compensated. Lots of members we talked to know that it may not explicitly affect them today, but were preparing with the expectation that it could. I was impressed by the proactive thinking here, I didn't hear a lot of people putting their heads in the sand - Popular talk by Randall Henderson: Randall at our friends at Rentvine flew in to give a talk that was well-attended about major PM mistakes seen across their user base. Congrats to them on their recent funding! 📈 - Many ways to engage with NARPM: There are more ways to connect with the NARPM community, a lot I didn't even know about. Shout out to Nancy Hollis for inviting us to the upcoming NARPM DFW vendor fair in November 😎 All-in-all, great event, we'll be back. BID Update and Networking Event at Siren Craft Brew   Earlier this week Reading BID hosted a BID update and Networking event. Paul from Siren Craft Brew ensured everyone had a warm welcome. BID manager Alexa Volker then went on to provide an update on the BID ballot results, a service update and upcoming plan such as new courses and events. She spoke about the SEEDLand the exciting courses the training programmes offers. There was an update on summer in Reading including our new Brickworks live theme, holiday activities and food programme and the summer hospitality campaign.   Nigel Horton-Baker Chief Executive of REDA provided a summary of the governance and finance of the Reading BIDS, including inward investments which includes the 2050 city vision.   Nicki Butler from Beauclair Ltd gave insight into retails sales and spends in Reading. It was fascinating to see Reading benchmarked against cities such as Oxford and standing firmly on sales.   The event ended with an inciteful update from Imelda Reddington, Legal Director and Head of Immigration at Field Seymour Parkes LLP. Imelda spoke about right to work checks, penalties for non-compliance and E Visa’s.
