Car sizes in the US are ballooning, causing a range of issues from safety concerns to increased emissions. Federal policies, like fuel economy standards and tariffs, have incentivized the production & purchase of larger vehicles, perpetuating the problem. https://lnkd.in/gVvwi6Bn #safetyconcerns #emissions #vehicleoversizing

#EVShift Slows, #US Eases #FuelEconomy Standards Key Takeaways: - Moderation in fuel economy standards reflects EV market realities. - Strategic concessions aim to sustain the transition to electric vehicles. - New rules promise significant fuel savings and consumer benefits. Further Insights 1. Policy Shift: The Biden administration is adjusting fuel economy standards amid slowing demand for electric vehicles, showing a pragmatic response to market dynamics and industry feedback. 2. Industry Impact: Automakers' concern over the high cost of aggressive fuel economy targets prompted a revised strategy, balancing the move towards electric vehicles with current economic constraints. 3. Consumer Savings: The updated fuel economy standards are expected to reduce gasoline consumption by nearly 70 billion gallons up to 2050, translating into over $23 billion in fuel cost savings for consumers. Closing Thoughts: With these adjustments, is the balance between accelerating towards a zero-emission future and navigating the economic realities of today struck in the right measure?

The all electric transport dream is not fit for purpose. The pragmatic practical approach is hybrid in the short term. Reduced engine size reduced battery size self regenerating-external charging capability. Full EV is an environmental /economic catastrophe with the higher payback higher carbon foot print (on mnf materials) and zero resale value. It has already been proven that the concept of full EV is a failure. It will result in extreme wealth for a few and poverty for most. The transfer to lower carbon footprint and green energy must benifet all. There are more realistic methods of reducing fossil fuel use by taxing over consumption and non essential use first. Cost of living and the cost of housing are now the (inc immigation) key issues facing Bowen/Albo. Hitting the trady "ute" is bad timing when we need to get off our arses and build more houses. Americans use 20 tons of petroleum per year per capita. Its impossible to re-create some green fantasy that this level of consumption can be upheld with alternatives to fossil fuel. the all electric dream is not fit for purpose. The pragmatic practical approach is hybrid in the short term. The Federal Government has released legislation for a New Vehicle Efficiency Standard for new Aussie cars, utes and vans in Parliament. This is an important way to cut petrol bills and clean up climate pollution from our vehicles in one go – a win-win. While the legislation has been released, it hasn’t yet been voted on in Parliament. Some of the biggest car companies - Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi and Mazda - want to pump the brakes. They don’t mind that Aussies are paying too much for petrol-guzzling, high polluting cars because that’s how they make their profits. Our friends at Big Auto’s Aussie Dumping Ground expose their dirty truths.

Australian federal opposition continues it’s unsubstantiated claims and BS about cleaning up the Australian transport sector. Remember the outrageous BS about stealing the weekend and “they’re coming after your utes”. Instead of working to clean up our expensive polluting vehicles in Australia and encouraging more efficient lower cost vehicles, they are embarking on another fear campaign with no REAL evidence base to support their claims. Do not listen to their rubbish claims. Introducing a new vehicle efficiency standard is aimed at lowering emissions and costs for Aussie drivers and offering more choice. We have to make big changes to lower impacts on the environment. Just look at the massive increases in extreme weather events and disasters which are costing us billions. We must act and the conservative politicians should be ashamed. Don’t be sucked into their BS.

Because of the cost of new technology and warranties, the price of a new Class 8 truck is expected to rise by $20,000 to $30,000 in 2027. However, buyers won’t have to wait until 2027 to see higher prices. Carriers are expected to stock up on 2025 and 2026 models to beat the 2027 price increases. This pre-buying activity, along with the current inflation rate, will push prices higher for 2025-26 models. Tighter emissions standards will shape the future of trucking https://lnkd.in/gRtJN3Sy

David Eby's War on Drivers We are less than a week away from the BC Election and I included a summary of one of Eby’s most radical policies that so many do not know about. We will have the most aggressive EV mandates and the stiffest fines in the world. My expert friend is the first to connect all the dots and please read and share with others. My friend says “This disastrous situation is because Eby sold out regular BCers to the lobbyists for made-in-China EVs.[6] [7] Despite the Canadian government’s 100% tariff on cheap subsidized Chinese EVs, B.C. is allowing the importation of scores of China-made electric buses from BDY.[8] Eby’s plan is intended to eliminate consumer choice. He doesn’t care that it will destroy Canadian car manufacturing. His choice is the result of a bargain between influential environmental radicals and a renewables lobby that has worked the corridors of Victoria hard for years. The motives of this lobby effort, led most notably by Clean Energy Canada, are rather dubious owing to the fact that the SFU-based group is currently pressuring the federal government to scrap its Chinese EV tariff.” There is even more. I discovered today that if you buy a Ferrari or Rolls Royce EV, Eby will reward you with a $100,000 PST break. $500k cars like those face 20% PST, but waived for those EVs. While a person wanting an entry level $17k Mitsubishi Mirage for a family member will attract a fine more than the car cost. You can’t make this stuff up. (and remember that BC Hydro will be extremely challenged to deliver the energy with all of NDP’s new policies and targets)

The EU has finalised stricter Euro 7 emissions legislation for cars, vans and lorries, with tighter limits on exhaust emissions, brakes and tyre particles. This was the final step in the decision-making process, the new rules will come into force in 30-60 months, depending on the type of vehicle.

Worth a quick read. Particulate matter pollution from brake pads, tyres and alternative fuels are all considered within Euro 7 Regulations. Battery durability is also highlighted and this could have a major impact on the residual values for second hand EVs.
