The California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls had an exciting Day at the Capitol with the Girl Scouts Heart of Central California! Girl Scouts from all over the state are visiting the Capitol for a two-day experience to learn about civic engagement, advocacy, and how to engage with our democracy. The Scouts will participate in workshops, tour the Capitol, meet with Commissioners and legislators and have a chance to ask questions of our elected leaders. Nearly 200 guests will be in attendance including elected officials, community, and business leaders. We are proud to announce our formal partnership with all eight Girl Scouts Councils of California! We're kicking off our partnership at the Changemaker's Breakfast as part of the event! Working hand-in-hand with all eight Girl Scouts Councils and their leadership, we look forward to collaborating to help build a world for ALL girls that recognizes your contributions, your inherent value, and your diversity as a vital part of what makes California such an incredible place. Commission Interim Executive Director, Darcy Totten, announced the partnership during the breakfast, saying, "We’re excited to work with your leaders to promote opportunities for you to develop self-directed projects that improve the well-being of women and girls and gender-expansive people in California." As partner organizations we will support the development of young women leaders who will advocate for themselves as leaders in their communities. We presented our "Girls to the Front" patch, designed in partnership with the Girl Scouts councils, and awarded to girls who participated in the advocacy training portion of the day. Thank you to Commissioners Senator Caroline Menjivar, and Nisha Devi Rodrigo, for giving the Scouts a chance to engage with women leaders in government. Thank you to the CEO of Girl Scouts Heart of Central California, Linda Farley, Ed.D. for such an amazing experience. We're excited for tomorrow! Thank you to Angela Blanchard and Erin K. Taylor from our friends at Political Solutions, Inc who led the advocacy training. Thank you to Myel Thelen (Jenkins), Executive Director California Women Lead and Dr. Nkiruka Catherine Ohaegbu for attending. We look forward to working together to support young future leaders in both organizations. #girlscouts #girlstothefront
