I *slightly* agree with the UK Health secretary. Hiring a *Head of DEI* is a waste of money if: #1 They do not have cultural awareness. #2 They are not addressing diversity holistically. #3 They do not have the relevant competencies. #4 It’s a knee-jerk reaction due to the lack of diversity. #5 It’s a performative act for public/commercial optics. #6 It’s seen as a silver bullet to diversity challenges. #7 They are not provided with the necessary resources. ↳To execute and effectively initiate company-wide change. #8 They have no autonomy & authority to put things in motion. #9 There is no clear scope on key deliverables. #10 They are expected to blindly follow Senior Management. #11 They are not going to be given a sufficient budget. #12 They are not allowed to leverage external partners. #13 They are biases towards certain demographics. I could go on forever, but these are my 13 reasons why… Have I missed anything? PS: This a safe space. Your employer won’t see this, I promise x
