What should the role of a patient advocate be? Having navigated the healthcare services on behalf of two relatives, plus observing friends in the same position, I don’t know how people cope without any medical knowledge! Despite two of us with medical and regulatory expertise the experience was quite traumatic. So… I got thinking about why we don’t have a strong patient advocacy role like other countries. When you Google patient advocate for HSE it is all about helping to make a complaint, I don’t think that is what patients need as first line #patientexperience #patientadvocacy
