From California Healthline: "UCSF's renowned nursing school will graduate its final class of certified nurse-midwives next spring. Then the university will cancel its two-year master’s program in nurse-midwifery in favor of a three-year doctor of nursing practice degree. The change will pause UCSF’s nearly five decades-long training of nurse-midwives until at least 2025 and will more than double the cost to students." https://lnkd.in/gip8M_sG

Im very sad to hear this. I have long felt that academic nursing’s obsession with the DNP would make advanced practice out of reach for too many people. It shouldn’t be a binary decision. It should be patient-focused. It should consider societal needs.

At a time when access to maternal child health care is in great need, this is a sad sad and irresponsible decision.

Such a loss for CA! Just when we're making headway with the Midwifery reimbursement, this.
