Many a slip twixt the cup and the lip, as my grandmother was fond of saying. Last week a colleague was musing on Gov. Glenn Youngkin's announcement on June 5 that Virginia will exit California’s “electric vehicle mandate,” at the end of 2024, when California Air Resources Board regulations are slated to go into effect. According to Fairfax County Times' Jared Wenzelburger making it "the first of 13 states to opt out of California’s vehicle emissions standards and ban on gas-powered vehicles. States may choose to either follow federal law on the issue or adopt California’s stricter regulations." How would this impact #electrification in the state and beyond? It's a good question. Especially given the countervailing signals of Dominion Energy's Residential Charging Program supported by Qmerit and Dominion Energy Innovation Center's selection of WeaveGrid in its 2021 DEIC Accelerate program. The latter won it a spot on the Global Cleantech 100 list. “Virginians deserve the freedom to choose which vehicles best fit the needs of their families and businesses,” Youngkin said. “The law is clear, and I am proud to announce Virginians will no longer be forced to live under this out-of-touch policy.” https://lnkd.in/e-jT7PTX Is this just a nod to the challenges of connecting #DERs with #Grid and #EVCharging? Or is a symptom of something more fundamental??

Leveraging legal, policy, and regulatory expertise in clean energy to help forge collaborative solutions for the West
Today is an important day for continuing to build out a single, integrated western power market. Entities that have either committed to or indicated a preference for EDAM now represent more than 40% of total annual load in the WECC!
We are honored to learn that Idaho Power and Portland General Electric have indicated their preference to participate in the ISO’s Extended Day-Ahead Market (EDAM), which would increase reliability and benefits to customers. Learn more about the announcements: https://ow.ly/3ks450QZ9yB #EnergyNews

💡 Ohio Energy News 💡 The EPA's latest regulations on power plant emissions, including Ohio's Cardinal Power Plant, are shaking up the electricity landscape, posing significant challenges to reliability and affordability for over a million Ohioans. Precision Quincy Industries is at the forefront of addressing these challenges, ensuring a stable and sustainable power grid for Ohio's future (Read to the end to learn more). Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) unveiled its final rule targeting emissions from power plants nationwide, including Ohio's Cardinal Power Plant in Brilliant. This rule, demanding existing coal-fired plants to be 90% carbon emission-free by 2032, poses significant challenges to the backbone of reliable and affordable electricity generation for over 1,000,000 electric cooperative members across Ohio. Pat O'Loughlin, president and CEO of Buckeye Power and Ohio’s Electric Cooperatives, condemns these regulations as unrealistic and unachievable. The EPA's mandates overlook warnings about increased costs and threaten the reliability of our national electric system precisely when we're facing growing demand and escalating costs. Jim Matheson, President and CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, echoes concerns, emphasizing the rule's oversight of reliability. Similarly, Michelle Bloodworth, President and CEO of America's Power, stresses the critical role of coal-fired power plants in meeting rising electricity demands. Read the full article here: New EPA Rules Threaten Reliability and Affordability of Electricity in Ohio | Ohio's Electric Cooperatives (ohioec.org) In this critical juncture, Precision Quincy Industries stands ready to support the resilience of Ohio's power infrastructure with our generator solutions, electrical houses, and battery storage shelters that provide essential support during emergencies, ensuring continuity and safety for communities affected by potential disruptions. Partner with Precision Quincy to bolster Ohio's electricity reliability and affordability. Together, let's navigate these challenges and safeguard our power grid for a sustainable future. #EPARegulations #ElectricityReliability #OhioPowerIndustry #RailroadShelters #GeneratorEnclosures #StorageTankFabrication #CommunicationsShelters #DataShelters #GenSetEnclosures #PowerStorageShelters #UtilityShelters #RailTransitShelters #RailwayHouses

As usual, Jeff St. John takes a complicated issue and explains it well! Our electric grid desperately needs to see #VPP's grow -- and for that to happen we need the kind of broad acceptance and standardization outlined in this draft legislation. Also great (and not surprising) to see my friend Mark Duda leading on this important issue! https://lnkd.in/gnuvQ3KZ

Important article from Canary Media on the utility lead times that are a challenging bottleneck for Medium and Heavy Duty EV deployment and California's EV fleet rules implementation. Smart charging and behind-the-meter resources can help mitigate the problem, but we'll still need a lot of new power delivered to fleet depots to realize the vision.
California electric truck-charging projects face years to nearly a decade for the grid infrastructure they need — and clean transport advocates say state regulators aren't pushing utilities hard enough to speed up meeting the demand. Here's the story: https://ow.ly/3eyX50Tt7JA

Check out this comprehensive and clear explanation by Jeff St. John of Canary Media Inc. detailing the huge challenges that the GenCell EVOX is designed to overcome: Despite state laws SB 410 and AB 50 ordering California regulators to speed up the process of getting utility customers the grid power they need; a recent CPUC decision to set timeframes; and the Advanced Clean Trucks and Advanced Clean Fleets rules, the demand for fast charging to enable truck (and other vehicle) electrification far exceeds grid capacity. The article quotes an engineer in the field: "Utilities’ grid-capacity additions are taking from seven to 10 years to “plan, design, budget, construct, and energize... Unless those capacity expansions can be sped up significantly, electric trucks become expensive stranded assets that are unable to charge.” The GenCell EVOX delivers rapidly deployable bridge power to enable DC fast EV charging when, where and for as long as it is needed. #FuelCells #DERs #Microgrids #FleetElectrification #EVCharging #SayNoToDiesel
