Reflections on The Australian Financial Review Higher Education Summit with Nous Group Line-Up of Speakers. The recent Higher Education Summit provided invaluable insights into the evolving landscape of higher education. Professor Genevieve Bell highlighted the complexities of AI, stressing the necessity of defining it clearly to grasp its true role in higher education. AI is not just a single technology but a broad, abstract set of tools. It's crucial that we critically evaluate where and why we integrate AI into our institutions, ensuring it aligns with and enhances our core educational mission. Ant Bagshaw urged us to take a technical approach, challenging us to rethink our business models and stay focused on what truly matters. Lisa Paul AO PSM addressed the factors behind the decline in public confidence, emphasising the need to rebuild trust and transparency. She also reminded us not to get caught up in the debate over differentiation—each institution has a unique mission and research focus, but we all share a common goal: to serve our communities. This perspective is essential as we navigate the complexities of public funding models, ensuring they reflect the diverse contributions we make to society. So many thought-provoking sessions that left me with much to consider as we work towards shaping the future of education. #AI #PublicConfidence #FundingModels #EducationInnovation #HigherEducation #AFRHigherEducationSummit

Founder EdTech Connect | EdTech Leader | Search | Digital Transformation | AI | Personalization | SaaS
The Higher Education Web Professionals Association (HighEdWeb) 2024 Annual Conference is a wrap and here are some takeaways. Paul Roetzer and Brian Piper continue to make it very clear that AI is the future in Higher Education and will enhance and integrate with everything we do. After talking to many institutions, it’s clear that a hybrid approach is the path to AI when it comes to top-of-mind use cases like site search. Core search technology will be enhanced by AI, not replaced. Personalized, data-driven strategies are transforming how institutions connect with prospective students, moving beyond vanity metrics. Plus, modern digital governance frameworks and enhanced search are being used as a dual-approach to create more efficient, accessible digital ecosystems. Here are just a few of the excellent presenters I want to thank- Meaghan Milliorn Fikes, Luis Merino, Joshua Charles, Georgiana Cohen, Kris Hardy, Patrick Kelly, Nate Lamkin, Matt Ryan, Lori Packer, Jeffrey Stevens, Katie Barnum, Gavin Kelly. Minhee M. See you in Michigan 2025! #HigherEd #AI #DigitalTransformation #StudentEngagement #highedweb SearchStax
