Personal account/personal opinion While I deeply appreciate the time sensitivity of emergencies and innovations that entrepreneurs bring to the market, panic buttons do little to assist the 9-1-1 function, and actually can hinder effective response. RapidSOS is incredibly effective for adding value to 9-1-1 by providing additional information to inform effective response like precision horizontal and vertical location and other additional data. A panic button solution being applied to wide range of scenarios and being sold as “benefitting 9-1-1 response”(regardless of what vendor provides it) is misguided. A single button press provides no valid information about what is happening. Is it a malfunction? Inadvertent activation? Even if it is only used for “active assailant” incidents, 9-1-1 loses the ability to gain more information and, importantly, provide guidance to those on scene and responders to save lives. It might be found beneficial if a button is used to generically summon staff assistance/security in the building; but that is not 9-1-1.
