Build up a support network. The automotive industry is difficult. It’s a thankless job, full of hard work, bloody knuckles, and late nights. I can’t describe in a way that most people would understand how difficult it is to be a true Automotive technician. Diagnostics, repairs, customer service. We are required to be engineers, electricians, hvac repair men. Body shop specialists. Customer service activists. Don’t do it alone. Build up a network of like-minded, goal oriented people to support you through the tough times. Those 18 hour days can get tough if you do them alone.

So why become a Metrologist or calibration engineer... Reason No 1 Precision and Importance in a huge variety of Industries. As a calibration technician, you play a crucial role in ensuring the precision and accuracy of equipment and machinery used in various industries. Your expertise helps to maintain the proper functioning and output of these instruments, which can significantly impact the quality of products and services produced. This is especially important in industries like healthcare, aviation, manufacturing, and automotive where slight inaccuracies can lead to serious consequences. By maintaining the calibration of instruments, you contribute to the efficiency, safety, and reliability of these industries.

Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals. I can't stress this enough. As a tech you really can be your worst enemy. Proper vacuum/evacuation procedures, troubleshooting processes, and much much more can really aid you in being an efficient and effective tech. I found an air compressor technician in California who is    A non-job hopper.   A rotary screw and centrifugal compressor expert    He is experienced in electrical and mechanical engineering, past the compressor.   HE was only asking for 30.00 per hour!?   There is an old saying- if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is    I had to ask the candidate directly.    “ You sound too good to be true; what is the catch?”   “ Are you an ax murder?????”   Candidate    “ ha, no, sir. I am a worn-out tech who has worked hard in the field.”   “ I know my value, but I’m looking for a company that wants me to focus on resolving the issues.”   “I am methodical with my work and don’t take shortcuts.”   “I am not the fastest. I am a tortoise, not a hare. Everything I do is based on the long term.”   A good recruiter can uncover what is not being said.   This conversation has led to a custom job speciation from my client.   They have found not only their air compressor tech but also a team member with whom they can plan long-term growth.
