The issue of homelessness in the UK is an urgent one, with over 100,000 people experiencing unsuitable accommodation. Our National Homelessness Property Fund 2 is working hard to break the cycle of homelessness by providing stable housing for those who need it most. We have recently finished refurbishing a property for one of the fund’s housing partners, Response, offering hope and stability to its tenants. Watch this video showcasing the refurbished property, a place where someone can finally call “home”, once again. #ukhomelessness #endhomelessness #stablehousing #refurbishedproperty #HousingForAll #homelessnessawareness #SocialImpact

Our plan creates an affordable housing system that will end chronic homelessness and preserves everyone’s right to decent housing. We do this by: ◦ Keeping affordable housing affordable through a rental protection fund that will preserve existing homes and support the acquisition of new ones. ◦ Building more affordable housing made possible with additional funding. ◦ Helping communities provide long-term support to address their local homelessness challenges; and ◦ Supporting our most vulnerable who are living in encampments or are in unhoused transition to a dignified housing solution. Actions = Results! Together, we are building stronger communities

President's Post: In the words of Michael Block, the CEO of All Roads (formerly the Boulder Shelter for the Homeless), "Fighting homelessness can sometimes seem like pushing a big rock up a steep hill. So when there’s good news, it’s great to point it out and build on it." And this is some positive progress to report: https://lnkd.in/gfvYZXtG. The Boulder Chamber's partnership with All Roads in support of the Day Service Center and in creating housing options, like the Bluebird permanent supportive building, are elements of the progress we can make through collaborative efforts to meet the needs of our unhoused population and to address the business and community impacts of homelessness. Let's keep pushing forward!

Civil Engineers need to be rallying against the oppression that is being placed on our unhoused communities. American engineers regularly apply their problem-solving skills to improving the human condition and quality of life. But when it comes to one of the most pressing social problems in the nation’s cities—our homeless population. The most visible examples of Civil Engineering are often ones that deprive these individuals of comfortable places to rest and sleep. These range from “no-sit benches” that you can only lean against to strategically placed rocks embedded in flat surfaces to the use of uncomfortable material to fences put up to block homeless encampments. Daily impediments reinforce what some unhoused people see as a callous attitude on the part of authorities and engineers who work under their lead.
Today, #SCOTUS gave localities permission to punish unhoused community members simply for existing outdoors, even when there aren’t enough shelter beds available. Now, our leaders must truly lead, modeling meaningful solutions instead of cheap, cruel & unsustainable shortcuts that only obscure our problems at the expense of our most vulnerable neighbors. Homelessness is not a crime, it’s a policy choice. The only way to address homelessness is to house people and to keep people housed. #GrantsPassVJohnson

Today SCOTUS struck down the Grants Pass case regarding homelessness and public camping. They found that it was not cruel and unusual to criminalize homelessness. This is not the decision we wanted… But here’s the thing… Regardless of the SCOTUS decision we know housing solves homelessness. SCOTUS does not build housing or provide supportive services, communities do. And when communities come together to solve tough issues, we move forward not leaving anyone behind. Don’t let this decision discourage you. Lean in to the abundance we can create and keep beating the drum of housing solves homelessness. We can and are already doing the great work. I am proud of the steps we are taking locally here in Kansas and around the country. We are the movement. We are the people power. We can and will do this. We do not have to take homelessness into our future. We must make the case in our communities. We must build our choir of champions. We must be strategic and proactive with our policy and programming. We must get everyone into our collective future of abundance! #housingsolveshomelessness #grantspass #scotus #strategiccasemaking

In Charlotte, we're witnessing a critical challenge that touches the heart of our community — the rising tide of homelessness. This year, we're turning our focus toward understanding and addressing the complexities of housing instability in our city. Insights from the 2023 State of Housing Instability & Homelessness report by Mecklenburg County Community Support Services have been eye-opening: ⬆️ The count of individuals facing homelessness in our community is on the rise. ⬆️ An increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness without shelter. ⬆️ People are spending more time in emergency shelters than before. The availability of affordable rental options is dwindling. ⬆️ An increasing number of low- and moderate-income families are finding it hard to secure and maintain housing. ⬆️ The rate of evictions is climbing. Charlotte, we're curious to hear your thoughts. Were you aware of these issues? Do these findings surprise you? More importantly, how can we come together as a community to support those in need and find sustainable solutions to these challenges? Let's start the conversation and more importantly, let's start taking action. If you're ready to make a difference or want to learn more about our involvement and what you can do, let's talk. Together, we can make a change. #charlottecommunity #housinginstability #homelessnessawareness #takeaction #strataimpact
