according to my professors at Cambridge, we only have enough natural resources to last til 2035. at that point everything will be recycled, fact. The far distant future is here and if we do not start investing in and developing different ways to re-use, re-cycle or re-purpose things, the entire planet will suffer. Color, Race, Religion Goo-location won't matter if we are starving or can't cool down. Our company verdant Global along with our Carbon Neutral partners, have made a comitment to reduce our Carbon Footprint while managing our production consumption cycles. We are not saying that it can't be done, just that it needs to be done now. #circulareconomicsustainability #netzero #SEE

Yesterday, I attended the Climate Neutral Adelaide session at Stone and Chalk Startup Hub in Lot Fourteen. Andrea Bassett (Principal Climate Change Advisor at the City of Adelaide) was interviewed by Seshine Taylor about climate change and how start-up companies are addressing the issues caused by climate change. Some interesting things I learned from that session were: - South Australia is leading the world when it comes to variable renewable energy penetration. - There are a few incentives, supports, and rebates for "Going Electric" in Adelaide. - There are times that South Australia is generating "too much power," and in contrast, some energy providers are providing their clients with notifications on "spike hours" to try and reduce their energy bills when the state is expected to use too much of it. - Patagonia had a successful campaign called "Do Not Buy a Jacket," which encourages people to consider the effect of consumerism on the environment and buy only what they need. - South Australia has a low "food mileage" when it comes to fresh food, which means the food doesn't travel too far, therefore resulting in lower carbon emissions. Even the catering had sustainability in mind, with drinks coming from DASH (sparkling water flavored with wonky fruits) and food from Oz Harvest.
Had a brilliant time being interviewed by Seshnie Taylor at Stone & Chalk in Lot Fourteen about all things climate change, and what startups and individuals can do about it. In short: 👉 The world's getting hotter at an alarming rate, with July 2023 - June 2024 measuring 1.64°C above preindustrial temperatures. 👉 But the rate of change in our energy systems is a source of optimism, with South Australia leading the world in the saturation of wind and solar. 👉 Startups need to embed sustainability into their business from the get-go because it's a lot harder later on, and it's coming down the supply chain. 👉 We have the science and (most of) the solutions, what we need is adoption at scale. Thanks for the great conversation! #startup #climatechange #climateaction

STARTUP INVESTORS INVITED TO SCOTLAND 🏴 NOVEMBER 4-8 Sustainable Alpha is pleased to partner again with Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to bring another cohort of global investors to explore Scotland's exciting startup ecosystem and build relationships with local investors and other investors from around the world. This trip is for you if you are a startup investor (angel, family office, wealth advisor, or VC/PE fund manager) interested in tapping into a whole new world of dealflow with smart talent and sensible valuations. Day by day, we’ll trek through Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen, and Edinburgh to meet 50+ vetted companies across several sectors: #spacetech, #deeptech, #IOT, #robotics, #biotech, #lifesciences, #fintech, #cybersecurity, #AI, #climatetech, and #netzero. For many reasons, it’s particularly easy to be bullish on the Scottish #space sector, but don’t just take our word for it. One of our visiting from the last trip summed it up so well… “Before the trip, Scottish Spacetech wasn’t at all on my radar. I left with the spider sense that Scotland needs to pour focus and resources into this sector. They’ve inexplicably achieved what most countries only dream of doing: manifesting the network effects of scaling something very special. At the very least, Scotland should be able to build the reputation as the best place in Europe for space. Much like Denmark did with wind energy, it could pay dividends for generations. Denmark decided to be a leader in wind energy and now that’s part of their national identity and a source of domestic pride. I left thinking Scotland could do this with space. How cool is that? When I explained to my friends and cofounder, I shared that there’s California, Texas, and Scotland. That kind of mindshare is very special.” See more itinerary details and sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gEXwbVzr Reach out to us at ScotlandTour@SustainableAlpha.ai with any questions.
