What does Merry Christmas mean? We hope you Enjoy Christmas? Enjoy what about Christmas? Presumably it's something to do with the birth of Jesus? What is there to enjoy today? What if the secret to the enjoyment of life was revealed today? Christmas day is a celebration of Evolutionary Emergence. Something appearing from nothing - as described by the Virgin Birth. How can understanding evolutionary emergence (as demonstrated by Jesus on his birthday) help people to enjoy this (to have a Merry Christmas) and EVERY (to live happily ever after) other day? The realisation that the exact same process of emergence may occur within the human mind (through Learning what is loved) - to give rise to the 'Virgin Birth' in context of an individual's quality. To become an unprecedented better (hence 'Virgin Birth') than we were just momentarily a priori. The gift of Christmas is to teach us that the ENTIRE basis to reality is in Emergence. Emergence may occur within an abstraction layer (for instance in the development of mind in wisdom or development of mind in art as we get better in both) - or it can happen, essentially similarly - in the transition between abstaction layers (species) - as we see today! albeit a few thousand years away.
Wishing a Merry Christmas to all our Cambridge students, staff and alumni, and everyone celebrating around the world 🎄

April 27th marks the 13th anniversary of a pivotal moment in my life. It began when I was unjustly barred from attending a university in Isfahan, Iran, on the grounds of my religious beliefs—labeled heretical by prevailing standards. Challenging this, I cited the constitutional right to education regardless of personal beliefs. My complaint, however, leaked to a radical website, leading to baseless accusations of espionage for Israel—a grave charge with severe implications in Iran. Faced with such dire accusations, I was compelled to flee. I escaped to Turkey, seeking asylum after a perilous border crossing. This period was marked by hardship, including a devastating earthquake that forced me to live in a tent during a harsh winter after my apartment was destroyed. Despite these conditions, I never abandoned my educational aspirations. Eventually, I immigrated to the United States with just $300 and a dream: to graduate from engineering school as a rebuttal to those who had tried to deny me an education. By working 70 hours a week and dedicating countless nights to study, I graduated in 2021. I am now on the brink of becoming a Professional Engineer in Texas, a journey enriched by the many incredible people I've met and the invaluable lessons learned from professors and colleagues. Writing about my journey is exhausting, yet it's important to reflect on how far I've come from those challenging beginnings. Some personal tragedies that happened in a short period of time, recently, have tested me on many levels, but these trial and tribulations remind us of a crucial lesson: Today's challenges were once distant dreams. So, we must persevere and continue forward.

It’s reunion season! High schools and colleges around the country are buzzing, not only with graduation ceremonies, but with people celebrating their graduation milestones! Last weekend, I attended my 20-year(!) reunion from Mount Holyoke College. Now I’m sharing 5 takeaways that reunions teach us more broadly about life, plus 5 tips to successfully navigate your own celebratory gatherings. To be honest, I used to think reunions were uncomfortably awkward. They definitely CAN be if you go into them looking in the rearview mirror. But that view is so small and limiting! If you go in with an open mind and heart, it’s a chance to see people more clearly for who they are today. I sure wouldn’t want people judging me based on the teenage and early 20s version of the person they once knew, so I figure why do that to anyone else? For me, reunion wasn’t so much about reminiscing about the fun yet distant memories of our time as students. So then what WAS it about? Read more: https://lnkd.in/egR62ft9 The full article includes: * 5 lessons that you can apply to your own life * 5 tips to successfully navigate reunions (and gatherings in general) * Bonus photos and a video of me and my own MHC at MHC playing a spontaneous piano duet, proud of the imperfections as reminders that there’s always room for growth! #reunion #classof2004 #genderdiversity #sevensisters #mountholyokecollege #gatherings #lifelessons
