Finance leaders…this one's for you. Don't get cocky. We are seeing a significant increase in candidates starting to "half look" or "passively keep an eye out" at the Senior Finance Manager level and above. Given the ultra cost conscious environment, most finance functions are struggling to get additional resources and many are feeling overworked. We are in an employer led market at the moment, but this won't last forever. The tide will turn… (Soon I hope, for us recruiters) While you may think people won't leave in this market, don't get complacent. Now is the time to ensure your team is happy. The last thing you want is half your team leaving the business when the market turns and it is roles galore. Which according to those of us with a crystal ball in the recruitment world, could be at the end of Q1 2025. I'd be interested in hearing how finance leaders are managing team satisfaction given the cost constraints within most businesses at the moment. 🍋🍋🍋

Head of Finance Operations at Absa Group - Global expertise in leading finance shared services| Finance Controllership | Programs on transformation, digitisation | Embedding change
Shared services leaders can make or break your business. Hiring the wrong shared services head will be costly. They are required to be jack of all trades - finance, human resources, procurement, and more. But that doesn't mean they need to be master of all. And more often than not, it's the little things that slip through the cracks when you are not paying attention. For instance - Sloppy finance reporting - Misunderstanding of tax regulations - Failing to negotiate a vendor contract Those small mistakes add up quickly. But, how to avoid that? Always hire a specialist. And by that, I don't mean just a highly skilled person, but the right fit for your business. • Someone who knows the market. • Someone who speaks the language. • Someone who understands your industry. The key to successful shared services leadership has always been building the right team, with the right people. If you hire the wrong person, it will cost you money. A lot of it. Do you have any experience of hiring a wrong person?

🧐 Recruitment CEO's: Do you have a high potential head of finance who you'd like to develop into a commercial, board level FD? 🧐 We can help them transition from being operationally good to being strategically brilliant! Simply by changing their mindset and opening their eyes to what is possible in an FD role in recruitment. They may have been promoted through your finance team to now be running finance or they may have been recruited into your business after holding senior finance roles in other industries - the course is designed for both! The course lasts for 6 months and covers the following: 💥 What is the FD mindset and how does it differ from earlier in your career? 💥 How to prepare for a successful exit 💥 How to write market leading remuneration schemes and roll them out in a motivating way 💥 How to run a budgeting process that genuinely creates a common goal across the SLT 💥 How to manage and run a high performing finance team 💥 How to drive value through the other non-sales teams 💥 How to create influential relationships across the business This course is based on my own experience. Finding myself running a finance team in a high growth recruitment business, with no one above me to learn from or aspire to be, with a CEO would couldn't develop me either. As the market starts to improve, this is the perfect time to invest in your head of finance........or maybe lose them to a more forward thinking competitor? 😬 #recruitment #aspiringfds #fds

CFO Navigation for SMEs | Steering Financial Strategy with Simplicity and Insight | Angel Investor | Ex. Fortune Global 500
Three Little Birds….”Don’t Worry About a Thing” It's been 4 days since launching Simplex CFO here on LinkedIn and the support has been overwhelming. A massive thank you to everyone who’s reached out, wishing me well on this new venture! For those who shared their goals and challenges, some of the themes included; - Managing business cash flow - Reporting, modelling & insight for decision making - Retaining & motivating finance teams - Fundraising for growth or capital restructuring - Boosting productivity, cutting costs & leveraging technology Even though these might feel unique to your business, the truth is, they are common and often go unaddressed until a company has budget to bring in a CFO or Finance Director to tackle them. Many decision makers try to avoid these issues as long as possible - some promote mid-managers, others attempt to solve the problem themselves, and some hire without a real understanding of the type of financial resource their business actually needs. While this is often done to save short-term costs by “kicking the can down the road”, what’s the long-term cost? It’s no surprise that the World Economic Forum reports that 52.5% of SME executives cite talent acquisition and retention as their biggest headache and 67% of SMEs globally are struggling for survival, in part due to the difficulty of finding the right talent to drive growth and innovation initiatives. The truth is, some of these issues can be solved with the right know-how, while others require problem-solving, creativity, and trial and error to find the best solution. But as Bob Marley said in “Three Little Birds”……. "Don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing gona be all right.” From the CFO who simplifies finance for plain sailing

The problem with most companies is their lack of investment in IT and then they pay the consequences when they can’t operate because of this. They should go for the best contracts, not the cheapest. Employ the best, most experienced staff, don’t rule out older staff, take a good look at their experience. Also there are so few roles for IT experienced executives as non executive directors, most ask for Finance directors. Someone with a lifetime of experience at a senior level in IT is incredibly valuable as a non exec director. Change this in your company today!

Former Corporate Finance, Consultant, Advisor, helping businesses develop and align financial strategy with goals. Founder of Davis Financial Services
Hiring, training, and incentives are financial decisions. When finance and HR work together, their actions shift from reactive to proactive. 70% of CEOs expect the Chief Human Resources Officer to be a key player in the company strategy, but only 55% say their CHRO meets this expectation. It’s easier for finance to allocate funds towards company goals, and for those departments to make decisions aligned with company goals when kept in the data loop of each other. At the leadership level, it’s critical for HR and finance to work as partners. HR and finance communicating and collaborating can increase revenue, alignment with goals, and better arm leadership to plan and execute business strategy. _____________ Please share your thoughts in the comments ➕ Follow me for more finance insights #business #finance #HR #entrepreneur #ceo #financemanager #financedirector
