Enterprise Ireland’s end-of-year results for 2023 revealed that employment created by companies supported by Enterprise Ireland has reached 225,495, the highest ever reported. 68% of these jobs were outside of Dublin, with particularly strong growth in North-West, North-East and West regions. Firm but fair. That’s how my colleague described me back when I was working in corporate finance. Today, I like to think I’ve gotten a bit nicer as a manager (you’d have to ask my team to see if that’s true). I have a good relationship with everyone that works for me at Vast and they can all think of me as a friend. But it’s important to draw boundaries. The best way to do that... Is by setting house rules. We have a standard of expectations that everyone should strive for. And I actively encourage my team to constantly be looking to produce the best possible work for our clients. Because, if you want a great workplace culture: With a fun team atmosphere. AND… A high standard of output. It has to come from the top down. Set some ground rules. Be firm. Be fair. Embrace the difficult conversations. And have some fun along the way.
