📍Accelerating Economic Cooperation with Key Global South Country, Indonesia Jung In-gyo, the Minister for Trade Negotiations at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, attended a ceremony for the mass production of electric vehicles with Indonesian-made batteries. He expressed hope that 'Made in Indonesia' electric vehicles would enter ASEAN and global markets, and that this cooperation would expand economic ties between the two countries. He then met with Indonesia's Minister of Investment, Bahlil Lahadalia, to discuss comprehensive economic cooperation. They emphasized support for Korean projects in electric vehicles and petrochemicals, and agreed to collaborate closely in the clean energy sector. He attended the signing ceremonies for MOUs on electric two-wheeler and smart e-mobility cooperation. At the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), he discussed regional cooperation and network expansion. He also met with local Korean businesses and institutions to hear their experiences and promised ongoing support and communication. Last week I had the opportunity to provide SI in Hai Phong during a 3-day workshop on free trade and non-tariff zones. Although I live in Hai Phong, I rarely have the opportunity to deliver my service in Hai Phong. Therefore, when I have the opportunity to do it at my home city, I always feel very happy. In case I have more than one client in a day, I would choose to work in Hai Phong instead of other provinces. Through my interpreting missions this year in HP, I can see that my home city has been changing rapidly with many ambitious strategies in socio-economic development. To do my tasks, I have to proactively learn about my city. About the event: Attending the event were representatives of leaders of Hai Phong City People's Committee, Ministry of Industry and Trade, General Department of Customs, Hai Phong Customs Department, Hai Phong Economic Zone Authority (HEZA) and other related departments and districts of the city; representatives of the Maritime Port Authority, Logistics Association, Xuan Cau Industrial Park and Non-Tariff Zone and some universities in Hai Phong. On the US side, there are representatives of the US Embassy in Vietnam and US Customs and Border Protection (US CBP). At the workshop, the trade counselor and attaché of the US Embassy in Vietnam and experts from US CBP shared about the history of foreign trade zones (FTZs); practical experiences, management methods for production, export, import activities and responsibilities of relevant parties in current FTZs in the US. The information/knowledge I find most interesting is the content shared by US CBP on how to determine: origin of imported and exported goods, trade frauds and substantial transformations in commodities... Hopefully, an FTZ in HP will be soon realized and in operation to generate more job opportunities for people. More information about the event:
