On the road 📍 Faroe Islands
Devoting a decent amount of time outdoors is an integral part of my workflow, whether I am capturing photos or not. I frequently check old spots, observe and learn from various light scenarios and patterns, scout for new spots, and search for new angles not yet seen. I make test shots, prepare frames, and then wait for specific light conditions. I believe this photo and frame will work well in the summer months when the sunset aligns perfectly behind the island in the middle of the photo, with typical summer sunbeams breaking through clouds and perhaps some reflections on the wet road …. and voila! There it is, a frame worth keeping.
Being a local photographer, wherever you are based, I think it's essential to know your location well and understand how the weather and light work. The truth is that the weather in the Faroe Islands is unpredictable, but by spending so much time outdoors, learning by observing, and using data from different apps I follow (weather, wind, skies, 3D landscapes), you gain some experience in making slight predictions on where to go for a photo. I have a long list of potential photo spots and scenes, which I cross-reference with the data from my apps, and that's what determines my choice of location for capturing photos. Most of the time, it works fine, and when it doesn't, just being able to be outdoors is a blessing in itself.
