Editing is an ART!!! 👉 Editing is the King: At its core, 'Maharaja' is a simple revenge tale. But thanks to its masterful editing, it becomes a gripping masterpiece. This transformation highlights the critical role of editing in filmmaking. 👉 Symbolism and Strong Screenplay: The movie draws heavily from Hindu mythology, particularly the goddess Kaali. As Kaali bathes in the blood of demons, the movie 'Maharaja' mirrors this intensity, especially in the final scenes where the villain's blood covers the footprint of the girl and he begs for mercy. The screenplay powerfully portrays this symbolism. 👉 The Kaali herself: The Daughter character's portrayal as a modern-day Kaali in the climax scene is both haunting and powerful. This strong representation adds depth and meaning to the story. 👉 Flaws in the Film: Despite its strong points, 'Maharaja' isn't without its flaws. The Highs: The creative freedom is unmatched. Every decision is yours. Every shot, and every cut reflects your vision. There's a thrill in knowing that every frame is your handiwork. You get to experiment, learn, and grow. The Lows: The hardest part isn’t the 14-hour editing sessions or reshooting a scene for the tenth time. It’s the loneliness that sets in when things go wrong, and you have no one to turn to. I once spent three days troubleshooting an audio issue, only to realize I had to reshoot everything. The self-doubt creeps in during those moments. “Can I really do this alone?” The Lesson: The grind is real, but so is the growth. You learn to be resilient, to trust your instincts, and to value collaboration when you can. Each challenge I’ve faced as a solo filmmaker has shaped me—not just as a filmmaker but as a storyteller. Why the box office failure of JIGRA is perfectly fine! Film pundits have declared Jigra as a box office failure. There's nothing surprising about it. Jigra is not a mass movie, rather it has an OTT feel about it. Technically speaking, it's a wonderful movie. And why? Because it has amazing writing with all the turning points, plot points, inciting incident, resolution and climax etc. in place. Being a screenwriter from from FTII, I can vouch for amazing writing except a little slowing down before the interval, but that's OK. The movie holds till the end, all thanks to grippy writing. If you are a true cinema lover, and have the ability to think beyond masala, this is just the right film for you. Jigra can be watched for creative direction, wow cinematography, superior sound, precise editing and most importantly, portrayal of emotions. Trust me, these kinds of fabulous movies are not made for theatre. Rather, these kinds of movies are made for a place in the history as a classic. The film is like Virat Kohli, it's sure that he will make runs but we also watch Virat for the beautiful technique of his game - his cover drives, straight drive and long on sixes. Jigra can give you the emotion (of a deep bond between a brother and his sister) but it can also tell you what good direction, sound designing, editing, cinematography, writing is! You get the gist. India needs more films like Jigras that don't care about the box office because BO is not a true indication of a film's success. Watch Jigra purely for cinematic excellence. Project Update: “Fragile Echoes” It’s been a while since I shared an update about my upcoming short film. It’s still in post-production, currently in the 2nd rough cut stage. Today, I worked on the final (and most important) scene, and I can slowly see it coming together as I intended. There’s still a lot of work to do before it’s finished, but I’m taking my time to ensure the end result “feels right.” The final scene has to be impactful because the entire film builds towards it. I’ve watched this part several times, and even in its rough form, it already kind of works, which makes me really happy. Taking photos and editing them doesn’t take long. Shooting and editing videos takes much longer. But making films (even a short film) takes even longer.
