December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. Today we remember, Geneviève Bergeron - civil engineering student Hélène Colgan - mechanical engineering student Nathalie Croteau - mechanical engineering student Barbara Daigneault - mechanical engineering student Anne-Marie Edward - chemical engineering student Maud Haviernick - materials engineering student Maryse Leclair - materials engineering student Anne-Marie Lemay - mechanical engineering student Sonia Pelletier - mechanical engineering student Michèle Richard - materials engineering student Annie St-Arneault - mechanical engineering student Annie Turcotte - materials engineering student Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz - nursing student Maryse Laganière - budget clerk in finance department And, all those impacted by violence against women. Violence against women is perpetuated and legitimized by the patriarchy - by unequal power distributions and expectations that make it OK for a person to feel like harming another is a legitimate option. Patriarchy believes that women and gender diverse folks are "less than" and it dehumanizes them. It blows my mind how prevalent this still is today - and that it keeps increasing. This is within all of our power to change, disrupt and prevent. Take action today. Call out discriminatory behaviours, harmful jokes, belittling or harming others - and support the numerous victims and survivors. Organizations like Discovery House Family Violence Prevention Society are doing amazing work and need your support to end the cycle of gender based violence. #GBV #DomesticViolence #NationalDayforActionAgainstViolenceAgainstWomen

Today is more than just a date on the calendar; it’s a call to action. Violence against women and girls is a global crisis, with 1 in 3 women experiencing physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. In 2023 alone, over 51,000 women lost their lives to gender-based violence. That’s one woman every 10 minutes. On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we draw attention to the harrowing escalation and epidemic of violence against women and girls. We join the call for accountability and action from decision-makers, and to bring justice for murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls across our country. Today and everyday, SOAR Initiative Canada continues to advocate for the eradication of systemic barriers to supports and resources for survivors and commits to a future free from gender-based violence. 🩵💜💙 #NoExcuse #AdvocateSupportEmpower #16Days #16daysofactivism #MMIWG2S

Today is The International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The Government of Canada’s theme for 2024 is Come Together, Act Now. It emphasizes how crucial it is to involve everyone in Canada – particularly men and boys – in changing social norms, attitudes and behaviours that contribute to gender-based violence. It is also a call to action urging all of us to recognize the signs of gender-based violence and to reach out for support, for ourselves or loved ones. Sexual Violence is a form of gender-based violence that is prevelant through all of Saskatchewan. Our rates are double the national average! In Saskatchewan 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience sexual assault. To learn more about ways to end gender-based violence, visit https://lnkd.in/gkH2wvjf #16Days

1 in 3 Canadian women and girls will experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. In 2024, Alberta saw 60,000 incidents of domestic violence, up 12% from previous years. Women of colour, 2SLGBTQIA+ women, and Indigenous women face even higher risks, with rates for Indigenous women being 3x higher than for non-Indigenous women. Addressing this harsh reality requires a trauma-informed, holistic, and community-based approach to care that promotes healing and breaks the cycle of gender-based violence. Some ways you can be a part of a community response to gender-based violence include: •Supporting survivors with safe, non-judgmental spaces to share their stories and seek help. •Advocating for stronger protections and resources for women fleeing violence, including access to housing, healthcare, and legal support. •Educating yourself and others about the root causes of gender-based violence, including misogyny, racism, and other forms of discrimination. Together, we can end the cycle of gender-based violence and build a stronger, safer community for all. #EndViolenceAgainstWomen #EradicateViolence #GenderBasedViolence #CreateChangeTogether #TraumaInformedCare

Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (November 25th to December 10th). This is a crucial moment for us all to unite, raise our voices, and take action against the violence and discrimination that women face every day. Recent findings from the HSRC's Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevalence Study reveal alarming statistics: 24% (3.4 million) of women in South Africa have been abused by intimate partners, highlighting the alarming prevalence of domestic violence. The need for change is urgent. It’s time to act. NOW. The fight to end GBV ends with us. We all have a role to play in creating a world where women can live free from violence and fear. Together, we can break the cycle of violence and build a safer, more equal future for all. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBV #StopViolence #SupportSurvivors #GenderEquality #EnoughIsEnough #BreakTheSilence

To lend our voices to the ongoing global advocacy against gender based violence which started on the 25th of November 2024 with its theme as "Towards Beijing +30: UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls." It is worrisome to note that every minute, someone experiences gender-based violence, yet many remain silent. Gender-based violence refers to harmful acts directed at individuals based on their gender, including physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse. According to UNESCO, 246 million children experience gender-based violence in schools annually. The UN has also stated that in every 11 minutes, a woman or girl is killed by an intimate partner or family. In addition to this, World Health Organisation (WHO) published that 1 in every 3 women globally have experienced physical or sexual violence in their lifetime. This has prevailed because for years abused women have stayed silent owing to the fact that they didn't know help is possible, but this 16 days advocacy movement is a solid platform to say NO to abuse against women. We are fully part of this advocacy and we invite you to join us and the Globe at large to put an end to Gender based violence. Silence allows violence to thrive. Share this post and break the silence. Together, we can create a safer world for all.” #BreakTheSilence #EndGBV.

On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, it's important to remember that gender-based crimes CAN and MUST come to an end. Gender-based violence impacts every community. But unfortunately, women who immigrate experience disproportionately high rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other gender-based crimes. We are all too familiar with this reality at Ayuda, especially given that 47% of the women we served in FY2024 suffered some form of gender based violence. Today, we reiterate our commitment to ending these crimes. It's a commitment not only to the women we serve, but to all who identify as women in our community. Because this issue impacts everyone.
