A couple of interesting things in this article: 1 - This kind of approach (taking a group of citizens, giving them some information, seeing how that influences their views) is a tool that should be used more often, I feel. 2 - The favoured options (time-of-use charging, improved public transport) seem to be different to the "more/better roads" narrative which is more frequently communicated as being the popular choice. Personally, I think some form of time-of-use charging would be a big step forward for Auckland. I remember living in London when congestion charging was first introduced, and the dire warnings of killing the city centre. That clearly didn't happen, and it has been proved to be a very useful approach. https://lnkd.in/dxfEXw83

Licensed Post Offices play an essential, often overlooked role in many local communities and help bridge the digital divide, especially in regional and rural areas. Over 80% of Community Post Offices are owned by independent small businesses, exclusively tied to Australia Post. The viability of many of these businesses is at risk as Australia Post continues to cut services and restricts its franchisees from engaging with other companies to do something about this. Please sign this petition and support your local Post Office. https://lnkd.in/ge-nWSVd Online shopping is growing rapidly and will likely double over the next 5 years. Convenient retail locations for parcel pick-up and drop-off (PUDO) services are critical for the development of the eCommerce industry. The ecommerce industry in Australia lags that of many other developed countries. Online retailers indicate that cost and service challenges, and a lack of competition, prevent them from providing a national service and selling to customers in regional areas. Our company, along with other leaders in the ecommerce parcels industry, sees immense opportunities for Licensed Post Offices to fulfil this role, and grow and thrive by working with all ecommerce companies. Consumer research shows overwhelming support for Post Offices to become a parcels hub, open to all. Australia Post (owned by taxpayers), facing significant financial losses, is cutting services and thereby undermining the viability of its licensed Post Office franchisees. Instead of cutting they should be trying to grow services for local post offices and work with the ecommerce parcels industry to make this happen. Help LPOs have a strong voice to the Australian Government by signing the petition. Thanks. Christine Holgate Scott Etherington Angela Cramp Rob Godwin Jon Bell Licensed Post Office Group

Time to brainstorm... 🧠💡 How can governments effectively leverage their purchasing power to support local businesses and amplify the impact of "Buy Local" initiatives within their communities? The U.S. federal government stands as the largest individual consumer globally, expending over $630 billion annually on products and services. Undoubtedly, residents and visitors can significantly contribute to local economies by choosing to buy locally. However, it's equally important to direct these calls-to-action (CTAs) towards government buyers who hold the capacity to readily support local, diverse, and small businesses, thus making a notable contribution to their very own "Buy Local" initiative. 👉🏼 Check our blog for inspiration before responding: https://lnkd.in/dYvQvfKu #Question #AskThePeople #Blog #GLASS
