Today is World Hepatitis Day. This is a global initiative to educate people about viral hepatitis, promote prevention, and encourage testing and treatment. Viral hepatitis is inflammation of the liver that is caused by a virus. If left untreated, hepatitis infections can damage the liver. A long-term infection with hepatitis B virus or hepatitis C virus can increase the risk of getting liver cancer. The best way to prevent hepatitis B is to get vaccinated. Treatment for hepatitis C cures more than 95% of patients. Talk to your doctor about getting tested and/or vaccinated. Learn more about liver cancer: https://ow.ly/JUVp50SAiXw

This week, I am excited to be at #IDWeek2024 with the AstraZeneca Vaccines & Immune Therapies team, where we will highlight our progress in developing innovative vaccines and antibodies to protect the patients AstraZeneca takes care of from viral and bacterial infections. We are presenting data that demonstrates the importance of protecting against serious respiratory infections caused by COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human metapneumovirus (hMPV). hMPV and RSV are among the leading causes of severe respiratory tract infections and hospitalisations in vulnerable populations, including young children, older adults and those with chronic conditions. Despite hMPV being a common virus that can cause symptoms similar to RSV, it is largely unknown to the general public. We are committed to addressing the impact of infectious diseases like RSV and hMPV by deepening our understanding of the burden and advancing novel immunisations that could offer protection in the future. Early Detection and Prevention of Hepatitis B & C Chronic Threats: Hepatitis B and C can be asymptomatic for years, causing severe liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. Essential Testing: Regular screening with HBsAg for Hepatitis B and anti-HCV for Hepatitis C is vital. Everyone should get tested at least once in their lifetime. Proactive Measures: If Hepatitis B negative, get vaccinated. For Hepatitis C, stay informed about transmission routes and avoid them. Early detection leads to better prevention and treatment outcomes. Act now for a healthier future. #HepatitisAwareness #PublicHealth #EarlyDetection #DrSomaSekhar

There is an urgent need for new tools to protect against #TB - one of the leading cause of death from infectious disease. The only available TB #vaccine was developed over 100 years ago and provides limited protection for adolescents and adults. There is reason for optimism though. At the end of 2023, there were 16 TB vaccines in development, four of which were in phase 3 clinical trials. The success of at least one of them is essential if we are to achieve the goal of ending the epidemic by 2030. Learn more in this article from Vox. #EndTB | #YesWeCanEndTB https://lnkd.in/d55JesEJ

Viral hepatitis is a serious, preventable public health threat that puts people who are infected at increased risk for liver disease, cancer, and death. In fact, hepatitis B and C are among the leading causes of liver cancer. The good news is, vaccines can prevent hepatitis B, and effective treatment can help protect against liver damage, cirrhosis, and cancer caused by hepatitis B and C. The Viral Hepatitis National Strategic Plan for the United States: A Roadmap to Elimination (2021–2025) provides a framework to eliminate viral hepatitis as a public health threat in the United States, and calls for an increase in viral hepatitis vaccination uptake and vaccine development, among other strategies geared toward hepatitis elimination. With over 10 million people infected with Tuberculosis (TB) each year, rapid and accurate diagnosis is essential for timely treatment and preventing the spread of this serious disease. STANDARD E TB-Feron ELISA from SD BIOSENSOR INC provides a reliable solution, overcoming the limitations of conventional tuberculin skin tests (TST) that often require multiple clinic visits and can produce unreliable results in patients vaccinated with Bacille-Calmette Guerin (BCG). With STANDARD E TB-Feron ELISA, you benefit from a highly sensitive and specific in vitro diagnostic test that uses TB-specific recombinant protein antigens to stimulate T cells in heparinized whole blood. This CE-certified assay detects interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) through ELISA, ensuring precise identification of Mycobacterium tuberculosis infections. Unlike the classic TST, STANDARD E TB-Feron ELISA requires only a single clinic visit, simplifying the diagnostic process and enhancing patient convenience. Additionally, its performance remains unaffected by BCG vaccinations, providing more accurate and dependable results. Upgrade your TB diagnostic toolkit with the STANDARD E TB-Feron ELISA, delivering efficient and trustworthy testing solutions for your patients. #TB #ELISA #Laboratory #MedicalDiagnostics #HealthcareInnovation #MedicalDevices #BabirusEgypt
