Camptothecin (CPT), a kind of alkaloid, is a DNA topoisomerase I (Topo I) inhibitor with an IC50 of 679 nM. Camptothecin (CPT) exhibits powerful antineoplastic activity against colorectal, breast, lung and ovarian cancers, modulates hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) activity by changing microRNAs (miRNA) expression patterns in human cancer cells.

TRPV1, a nonselective Ca2+ channel protein found in numerous cancers, plays a pivotal role in tumor growth by regulating critical processes, but its involvement in the development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has remained elusive. In their recent study, Yang Wang et al. discovered a noteworthy rise in TRPV1 expression in NSCLC and a correlation between a high level of TRPV1 expression and an unfavorable prognosis. They identified TRPV1 as a potential promoter of NSCLC and specified the mechanisms in which TRPV1 regulates proliferation and apoptosis in NSCLC. Click here for further information: https://lnkd.in/e7KDKG7G #cancer #ngs #cancerresearch

Abundant tumor microenvironment (TME) presence is significantly noticed in PDAC (pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma). This extensive TME is a primary cause of therapeutic resistance. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are a major component of the TME and are linked to cancer progression. This study identifies that the signaling of epidermal growth factor receptor/Erb-B2 receptor (EGFR/ERBB2) is induced by TGF-β in myCAFs. While the overexpression of EGFR/ERBB2 is a well-known therapeutic target in cancer, the authors focused on understanding its role in CAFs. The EGFR/ERBB2 signaling network contributes to CAF heterogeneity, and various CAF populations are thought to regulate the immune microenvironment. https://lnkd.in/genbJWdC

Novel cancer screening technologies, like multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests, hold great promise for reducing the burden of late-stage cancers and related cancer mortality, but new approaches are required to evaluate their effectiveness. TGen scientist, Joanna Palade, Ph.D. will debut a new publication titled: "Enhancing non-small cell lung cancer treatment utilizing natural killer cell-derived extracellular vesicles (NKEVs) as a novel adoptive cellular therapeutic" at the annual American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) conference this weekend. Palade shares, "NK cells have formidable antitumor and cytotoxic properties, but their ability to infiltrate lung cancer is limited. We are exploring NK-derived extracellular vesicles as a tool to enhance the NK cells' ability to fight, in a concerted effort between TGen and Baylor Scott and White.
