The True Reformer Building has long been a symbol of resilience, progress, and community empowerment. Built in 1903, it was the first building in the United States designed, financed, and owned by the African American community after Reconstruction. Since acquiring the True Reformer Building in 1999, @Public Welfare Foundation has been dedicated to maintaining its legacy as a hub for the community in Washington, DC. We offer our newly renovated spaces to nonprofits for meetings and events, free of charge. This building is a gift to our community and a testament to the power of collective efforts. My team and I are honored to be part of this legacy and excited to continue sharing this space with the community, hosting events and creating opportunities for civic engagement. The theme of this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month – Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together – is a powerful reminder of the innovation and resilience that defines the Hispanic experience. Yet, the impact of our criminal justice system continues to disproportionately affect Hispanic communities, presenting barriers to progress and equity. As we reflect on this theme, it's crucial that we work together to dismantle these systemic inequities. By advocating for reform and amplifying the voices of those directly impacted, we can truly shape a future that embodies justice and unity for all. #CriminalJusticeReform #HispanicHeritageMonth #Equity #PioneersOfChange
