Throwback to May 2021 COVID had left me without a job, and with an agency background, there weren’t many openings. Switching domains that late in my career felt like a risky leap into the unknown. But hey, sometimes life surprises you in the most unexpected ways! Enter Nishtha Taposh, a remarkable leader and my soon-to-be manager at Medanta, who took a chance on me. Despite my *zero* credentials in healthcare (imagine someone referring to an oncologist as a “cancer doctor”), Nishtha believed I could pull it off. She could have just given me the offer and moved on, but no, she went above and beyond. For the next month, she was not just a boss—she was a coach, a guide, and sometimes even a therapist. From learning the nitty-gritty of hospital operations to understanding how to navigate the corporate corridors without stepping on toes, she made sure I didn’t just survive but thrive.  Flash forward to last Friday at the ET HealthcareLeadership Summit by ETHealthWorld, and I had the pleasure of reconnecting with my mentor. A lot has changed since those early days—I’m in a better place both professionally and personally—but what hasn’t changed is her unwavering support and genuine concern for my growth. Did we discuss how tech is revolutionizing healthcare? Absolutely. Did we touch on how Takeda is transforming treatment accessibility or how Apollo Hospitals is redefining patient experience? You bet! But, as always, the real conversation revolved around something much deeper—family, mindfulness, and, of course, our mutual love for life-changing cups of coffee. As someone deeply invested in promoting inclusivity and ethical standards in the workplace, recent events at Medical Solutions have sparked some thoughtful reflection on the values that truly matter to me. The recurrent layoffs at Medical Solutions, despite assurances to the contrary, have me questioning the integrity of the company's leadership and its commitment to its workforce. It's disheartening to see such a glaring misalignment between professed values and actual actions. In my own job search, I'm on the lookout for an organization that not only talks the talk but also walks the walk when it comes to inclusivity, transparency, and genuine care for its employees. It's crucial to me to be part of a team where honesty is paramount and where everyone is treated with dignity, especially during challenging times. We, as employees, play a significant role in shaping the culture of our workplace. We help foster an environment where inclusivity thrives, and where every individual is valued and respected. It's essential to recognize that remaining silent or turning a blind eye can hinder progress. Instead, we must actively demand respect not only for ourselves but also for others. For me, transparency isn't just a corporate buzzword—it's a cornerstone of trust and respect in any workplace. I'm determined to find a company where I can contribute my skills and talents while feeling confident that my values are fully aligned with those of the organization. As I navigate my job search journey, I'm hopeful to connect with companies that share my passion for integrity and inclusivity, and where I can truly make a positive impact. Let's continue to champion these values together in our professional endeavors. Final thoughts: Is the company truly growing if layoff's occur 3x in 6 months? Does the company still grow even when the traveling nurses working for the companies contractual obligations aren't being paid? Or is it because the company spent too much money on acquiring other companies, so they can satiate their executive greed? Misleading advertising?

When students ask me if I can give them a project or an audit to work on … I always encourage them to work in the department, try to spot the failings, identify areas (perhaps that they’ve seen work better elsewhere) that could be improved and come back for me to help initiate and implement their own ideas. Any project or job has difficult times. It’s your passion, investment and enthusiasm for it that will get you through these times. Sometimes The grass might be appear greener but before jumping the fence, watch, speak to your neighbour and ask, how can I make my grass that green? Remember your passion! #nhscareers #surgery
