Yesterday, a long-sought overhaul of the federal grantmaking rules went into effect. The changes, if followed by governments and availed upon by nonprofits, will be transformative in communities. The more nonprofits know about this the more prepared they will be to participate in, and advance their missions through, the federal grantmaking process. Great first session yesterday at the Donor Participation Project talking about Fundraising Trends in 2025. The question was asked 'why is donor participation in nonprofits essential'? My answer is because aside from strengthening the financial stability of organizations it fosters a sense of community and shared purpose and ensures diverse voices are represented in shaping programs and initiatives. Engaged donors are often advocates for the mission, helping to expand the organization's reach and impact.
