The nonprofit sector is close to 5% of American GDP and 10% of American wages. The pause on all government grants and loans - undoubtedly done in part in the name of efficiency - will materially harm a part of the economy that is about the size of the construction sector - not to mention the people and communities harmed as fire departments, health clinics and childcare centers flounder or close. it will cost millions in time and related expenses to adjust this order as logistical, legal and ethical challenges mount.

A recent op-ed on nonprofit hospitals recycles flawed arguments that threaten access to care. The piece ignores what would actually happen if hospitals lost their tax-exempt status. Hospitals would close; communities would crumble; and patients would receive less care. It is critical for hospitals to be financially stable to maintain and expand 24/7 care for all patients and communities, develop new and advanced treatments for diseases, and weather storms, cyberattacks and public health crises. Everyone should be confident that when they ring 999 in a life or death emergency, an ambulance will arrive in good time. The Liberal Democrats have today (Sunday 23rd June) pledged a £50 million-a-year emergency fund, to allow ambulance trusts to reverse closures of community ambulance stations and cancel planned closures. Special Needs Trusts preserve a beneficiary's eligibility for needs-based public benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid. Receiving an inheritance directly can disqualify individuals from these crucial benefits due to asset limits. However, by placing the inheritance in an SNT, the beneficiary can continue to receive public assistance. Responding to today's The Scottish Government budget, our CEO Jane-Claire Judson commented: “The Scottish Government budget creates mixed feelings for us as a charity who represents people living with some of Scotland’s most challenging conditions. “While the Scottish Government budget makes claims of record investment in the NHS, when it comes to stroke and thrombectomy, what we’re seeing is actually a real-terms cut in funding to those areas which badly need further investment. “Public Health Scotland figures from July this year showed only half of the 10,803 Scots who had a stroke last year received the necessary care to ensure the best chance of survival and recovery. “A key part of that recovery, for those who are eligible, is access to thrombectomy. This cost-effective, and potentially life-changing treatment can save the health and care system £47,000 per patient over a five-year period. However, only 1 in 7 people in Scotland who needed this procedure were able to access it in 2023. We needed far greater investment in this area and sadly the Scottish Government has failed to deliver. “We do however welcome the increase in funding for Long Covid. Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland has consistently called for greater support for those with Long Covid. This funding must be used to ensure people with Long Covid get greater access to the support and treatment they need.”

Abbott has involved himself in financial decisions made by Jackson County Missouri Legislative and Executive branches of government which were in violation of Article VI, Paragraphs 23 and 26 (a) of state of Missouri Constitution. $52 M of borrowed illegally pursuant to Ordinance 4833 adopted 4/4/2016. The County owes Kansas City Area Transportation Authority for payments the Authority has made to the County related to 1/2 debt services on these 30 year special obligation municipal bonds. The aforementioned Article VI Paragraph 23 of MO Constitution prohibited the County from partnering with KCATA. The County borrowed $273,985,000 pursuant to Ordinance 5732 adopted 5/1/2023. Article VI, Paragraph 26 (a) of MO Constitution required voters to approve to approve this municipal bond issue. VOTERS AND PROPERTY TAX PAYERS WERE DEFRAUDED. https://lnkd.in/eKiaNpxp Federal grants fund so many initiatives. For seven years, I worked on one that helped state and local prosecutors prosecute pedophiles. I am trying to wrap my head around what this order does - my lens is very small compared to the larger landscape. In 2022, 1.4 trillion dollars that went to health care, education, social services, infrastructure, and public safety. Depending on how this "pause" is implemented, it could have a huge impact on not only public safety, infrastructure, health care, and social services, but the economy as a whole. Right now there just seems to be alot of confusion.
