Budget cuts for Suffolk’s arts and museum sector. As a response to high inflation and a rising demand for services, Suffolk County Council (SCC) has announced plans to save £64.7m over the next two years and direct an additional £42.7m and £29.9m to children and adults’ services respectively. To meet this target, SCC plans to save £500,000 by stopping 100% of the art and museum sector’s core funding. Local charities including the New Wolsey Theatre and Eastern Angles Theatre Company have urged SCC to rethink cuts in this sector, which supports tens of thousands of children and adults through community engagement work. Dame Judi Dench, patron of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, has spoken out, explaining that the theatre “plays a vital role in the lives of so many… the removal of this support is heartbreaking.” The creative industries generate £272m for the region and contribute greatly to community wellbeing and the visitor economy. Richard Rout, SCC’s deputy leader, explained: “This is the most challenging budget-setting process the council has faced for many years. But once again, we are putting adult and children’s care at the heart of our plans”. SCC’s scrutiny committee are to discuss the decision, which will then be debated at a full council meeting scheduled for 15 February 2024. Consider this a mini-grassroots ASU+GSV AIR Show & ASU+GSV Summit #philanthropic experiment: Learned about The David's Harp Foundation, Inc. founded by Brandon Steppe in #sandiego this AM through one of their partners - Harbor City Church. In the coming days, we're going to hear a lot about things like #upskilling and the #futureofwork, while encountering a lot of homelessness. David's Harp is providing at-risk youth with amazing opportunities to develop entrepreneurial, creative, and leadership skills within San Diego's $2.4 billion Creative Economy. One very tangible need right now is to raise $15K for one of their newer youth homeless shelters that is need of renovations to their bathrooms and laundry rooms so they can shelter more young people. So the ask is to: 1. Donate $50: https://lnkd.in/eQk6iDK9 and put "#asugsvsummit shelter bathroom and laundry room reno" in the Comments of the donation page. And either comment or DM me and lets see what we can drum up! 2. Repost please and spread the word! I think it would be amazing to see the positive local impact that we - as attendees of a global #edtech event - can have on the host city. Learn more about their programs here: https://lnkd.in/e8uFZ5SK Let's see what happens - will this result in crickets 🦗? Or will we deliver some much needed 💰 for local housing, education & workforce development. #asugsvsummit #workforcedevelopment #atriskyouth #homelessness #education

Navigating the complexities of property disputes can be challenging, especially when it involves institutions with long histories and charitable ties. The ongoing legal battle over the Westminster Choir College property is a prime example. With Rider University, Princeton Theological Seminary, and local authorities all laying claim to the property, finding a resolution is proving to be a complex endeavor. The legal landscape is quite intricate, with disputes about ownership and intentions adding layers to the process. Resolving these issues will require careful navigation through a complex web of claims and historical commitments. #PropertyDispute #LegalChallenges #ReligiousOrganization

Community arts funding is essential!
A really concerning vote is happening on Thursday. After cancelling the funding for the Public Art Program, now there is a vote to cut funding to community grant recipients. Of particular importance (to me and many others), is Art City; a wildly important and necessary organization. These community organizations are what makes our city better, and provide children the opportunity to access a safe space and creative outlets. Sharing this here so if you feel as passionate about this organization as I know many colleagues already do, find a way to show support. Winnipeg can’t afford to lose this space. 🖼️🌇

Danny Kean story here, nearly 40 years of free music for all, read below and support if you can: On the road for almost 40 years, the same pickup truck with a piano in the back shared freely with everyone. After 20 years as a fee based performance vehicle, for the last 18 years the Traveling Piano has been operating with no fees, tips or commercial affiliation... no hook and with nothing but with pure Musical Fun, Friendship and Respect through Empowerment and Inspiration. Piano Man Danny Kean with his first pup Bo-ner in spirit and now Traveling Piano pup Mo, they have been focused on community outreach and especially for those struggling in life. Over 100,000 people have been on the piano seat and all through one-on-one individual musical interactions. Having originated in Philadelphia, PA the Traveling Piano has established itself now as a Downtown Las Vegas for the last eight years. Travels have happened throughout the entire Northern Hemisphere of America. The journey has been blogged daily since 2006 on the Traveling Piano's website www.travelingpiano.com The Traveling Piano operates in the most simple way possible without financial reserves, obligations, expectations, salaries or self-serving agenda for attention. 100% of all contribution is put into the truck, work and equipment. Online fundraisers happen only when the situation becomes dire for truck and equipment needs. The act of not accepting contribution in person with the Traveling Piano experience keeps the agenda pure. It creates trust and opportunity for healing in vulnerable environments where communities are severely hurting from tragedy. Giving freely without an exchange leads to intimate and personal interactions of trust and is a huge aspect of why the Traveling Piano's work has been successful. Currently the Traveling Piano truck is in a dire situation. Funding is necessary in order to continue operation. Specifically, a new carburetor and brakes are needed and for the sake of present-ability, serious cosmetic work as in a paint job, new front window and a replacement dashboard to get the speedometer and emergency lights working. The heat is destroying the piano and its sound system and a backup keyboard and speaker is necessary. Over the years people have suggested a new vehicle. This will not work considering the Traveling Pianos unique life and deep emotional and personal history. Cleaning it up and restoring its parts is the only way to go. The world needs the Traveling Piano's mission of truth in spirit. It is a safe space with positive energy and love and lets not forget the fun for all who come in contact with it. We all need fun now especially, eh? Will you help keep it alive? Please contribute... again and again. Just once is great too! And please share this contribution link on your social media and in groups. Spotfund: https://lnkd.in/e54Ra5hk Website: https://lnkd.in/ecXeC6Ji Venmo: Dan Kean @travelingpiano

Check this out....and pleasssssssssssse don’t forget this is National Affordable Housing month…..as an Ambassador for PATH in support of homeless population, I am focused on sharing the facts about homelessness – “Most groups of color have higher rates of homelessness than their White counterparts—and, in some cases, far higher. Within the White group, 11 out of every 10,000 people experience homelessness. For Black people, that number is more than four times as large—48 out of every 10,000 people. Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islanders particularly stand out as having the highest rates, with 121 out of every 10,000 people experiencing homelessness. The racial and ethnic groups with the highest incidences of homelessness have extensive histories of experiencing oppression, including displacements from land and property and exclusions from housing opportunities. Effectively addressing homelessness will likely require invested partners to account for America’s history, and that history’s influence on current culture, policy, and practice.”…. I ask you to donate to our local nonprofit PATH, who is committed to offering support to the homeless population that face challenges of housing insecurity. Homelessness can and does impact everyone....….Here is the link to donate to PATH Giving Day on or before May 15th. Any and all donations are accepted, because together we can make a difference for the greater good of our community -- https://lnkd.in/gEHmtbkQ
