What does longevity mean to you when we talk about pavement preservation? To the municipalities I work with, it's about selecting a surface treatment that doesn't just linger on the surface but continues to protect the asphalt year after year. Selecting a surface treatment that protects the underlying asphalt for longer has clear benefits: 1) Longer-lasting surface treatments provide more protection, keeping the underlying asphalt better for longer. 2) When asphalt lasts longer, it costs less to own. That allows tax dollars and budgets to stretch further. 3) Longer-lasting surface treatments result in less impact on the community. The extended performance means the street can go longer without another pavement preservation treatment. Long-term protection, not just coverage, is critical to a successful pavement preservation program. p.s. The picture below was taken 4 years after this HA5 installation. The road still looks good, and the HA5 is doing its job. #assetmanagement #longevity #value #publicworks #engineering #infrastructure

Wondering when it's time to rehabilitate your pavement? ☑️ Consider factors such as pavement condition, traffic impact, safety, costs, pavement age, subgrade conditions and the environment in decision-making. ☑️ Visual inspections, pavement management systems, and functional performance assessments can be used as key tools in evaluating conditions. ☑️ Keep an eye out for increased traffic, shifts in patterns, and safety hazards as potential signals for intervention. ☑️ Environmental considerations like drainage and sustainability are also crucial. Our pavement experts can guide you through the process, using relevant data to determine the ideal timing and type of rehabilitation needed. It’s a beautiful spring day to get out and look at some bridges that are posted for restrictive load. Bridges may need to be posted for restrictive loads when the capacity of the bridge decreases and/or when the demand on the bridge increases. Depending on funding, permitting, and other considerations, rehabilitation and replacement bridge projects can take up to 6 years or more to get to construction. A timeline that may result in further restrictive posting. Proper planning and forward thinking can offer safe solutions for the traveling public when restrictive posting signs appear on your bridges.
