Green Protein The Fromwald team from Leithaprodersdorf in Austria harvests lucerne for farmers in the region and then dries and sells it as high-quality protein feed. 👈 "One day, I noticed that one of my customers was using lucerne hay as fodder, which usually came from Italy," states Johann Fromwald. "However, lucerne is also grown here. Actually to an increasing extent because it is an essential part of the crop rotation process on organic farms. However, in our region it was usually used in biogas systems or even ploughed in. This is where I spotted an opportunity and started looking for a drying plant. Barrel systems are very expensive, which is why I opted for a circulation system. In 2020 that was the first drying plant for organic lucerne in the whole of Austria," states Johann Fromwald, continuing to explain: "Initially we always mow around 30 ha of lucerne a day. We then use a loading and forage transport wagon to transport it back to site. We then use the telescopic loader to push it into the system. The drying process runs at a temperature of 90°C to 130°C in two shifts. Fresh from the field, lucerne as a max. water content of 30-55% and when it leaves the system this is down to 6%. Even if it means our costs are a little higher, we are more likely to dry it for a little longer to ensure the customer is happy. The last step is to then use a baler which compacts the lucerne into bales. Wire is used for tying because of the very high pressure." ▶️ Find out more in the article in the latest XtraBlatt issue 2-2023. https://lnkd.in/ekxaMdr5 #krone #xtrablatt #kronextrablatt #kronecustomermagazine #lucerne #lucerneharvest #harvestinglucerne #kroneaustria #kroneagriculture

After working with ExperiCo Agri-Research Solutions to prove that ethylene is present in #tablegrape case liners, the RYPEN Technology team are now studying the specific mode of action. 🍇 With over 3.7m tonnes of table grapes exported annually, often taking a month to arrive at destination, maintaining quality during these voyages can be challenging. 🚢 Two specific issues – now understood to be related to the presence of ethylene – are occurring. Firstly, and most commonly observed, is dehydration and browning of the rachis (stem). Ethylene is being emitted by the rachis, causing degradation which then leads to berries detaching (shatter), or shrivelling. Secondly, the presence of ethylene can catalyse enzymes which control the composition of polyphenols, accelerating ripening, or colour shift, in the berries. This means the berries get darker and look less appealing to consumers. By removing the ethylene that builds during transit, growers, packers, and exporters can mitigate these quality issues and improve their financial returns. This is where the RYPEN Ethylene Moderating Technology comes in. Watch this space to learn more about a product we have designed specifically for the table grape industry (and others to follow too ... #kiwifruit growers, you haven't been left out!) 🥝 #agriculture #freshproduce #sustainability

🫐Blueberry Growing Challenges: Delicate and demanding in their growing conditions, blueberries pose unique challenges for growers. From soil acidity to precise water retention, the ideal environment is essential to maximise productivity and fruit quality. 💡 Advantages of Projar Peat: an organic substance formed from the decomposition of plant matter, it stands out as a multi-faceted solution. Its ability to acidify the soil, maintain moisture and improve soil structure makes it an essential component in creating an environment conducive to growing blueberries. 🌿 Exceptional Results: Integrating peat into growing substrates not only facilitates the management of soil acidity, essential for blueberries, but also improves water holding capacity, promoting an optimal environment for root development and nutrient uptake. #projarinternational #growing #inspiring #sustraberry #peat #blueberry

Reshaping a supply chain? Our first regeneratively grown organic certified soybeans were grown on the same farm as the chickens that will consume the grain! Farmer Focus is working to create more circular relationships to typically long and complex supply chains. The soybeans will need to go to a feed mill and come back to the farm but a greatly shortened and less volatile supply chain to get the feed to the chickens. This will not only eliminate volatility for us but also for the farmers we partner with. Feed makes up more than 60% of our total GHG impact…think of the GHG footprint difference between the approaches. #supplychainreimagined #organicfarming #climatesmartfarming

Some great features this week for the industry to share, telling the story of how important seaweed is to everyone. With few primary processors able to produce safe, high quality fine powders and flakes here in the UK at scale, creating stability and confidence is the key to maturing this market. We were pleased to see the recent article "Kelp help? How Scotland’s seaweed growers are aiming to revolutionise what we buy" this week in The Guardian by Joanna Moorhead, where our friend Dr Kyla Orr from Kelp Crofters highlights so well the bottleneck we have designed our business around. https://lnkd.in/eWzris_B Meanwhile the Economist Impact picked up on a report published late last year by Eugene Klerk, again underlying the need for industrial players like Seaweed Enterprises to scale, allowing farmers to grow more and off takers to buy premium products, locally. Take a read of the full article here https://lnkd.in/e7HR2vss If anyone is interested in accessing high quality 200micron or 400micron milled seaweed powders or flakes, or would discuss bulk supply needs, please get in touch. Starting to see this type of structure here in California. Gripple products can help with post stabilization (especially end posts), horizontal wire grids, top cable supports, wire & cable fasteners & joiners. Info taken from their web site: C.U.P.S. (Citrus Under Protective Screen) C.U.P.S. is a new growing system that yields the highest quality citrus using precise agriculture inputs while minimizing the amount of fertilizer, water and pesticides. This system is environmental friendly and preserves natural resources. C.U.P.S. maximizes our yields and produces the finest in fresh Florida citrus from our grove to your household. Benefits of the C.U.P.S. growing system include: Prevents cross pollination from bees Fewer pesticides Better utilization of water Protects our natural resources Produces better fruit quality and taste (higher brix) Food safety compliant Here are more of their videos: https://lnkd.in/gF8i_j3y https://lnkd.in/gMgxe5GR https://lnkd.in/ghF4Z9Hy

https://lnkd.in/eM-faBY7 Double whammy for us last week with a lovely article from both The Economist and The Guardian. Everyone is talking about the boom in seaweed as a potential miracle. Which it absolutely is. But to make use of it, correctly, carefully, safely and sensitively is still all about well curated industrial processes. We need this debate to rage on. And for hearts and minds to continue to be captured. Imagine a world without single use plastic, or a world with real ingredients, not synthetic or artificial things we all panic about, yet still we feed our kids with them, to cattle feed which is closer to what cattle should eat than what we feed them, and so on. To utilise this powerful ingredient requires industrial drying and milling, something we do here at Seaweed Enterprises. Sing it loud people - people deserve to be told. Scotland should be at the absolute forefront here.

🌱 A photo from a greenhouse growing Roma tomatoes. The left side of the photo shows results using Cascadia’s Sea-X Liquid Kelp Extract and on the right side a water-only control. With a light application of Sea-X, the grower has seen a marked improvement in growth, vigour and stalk strength, and the plants are ready for outplanting several weeks ahead of schedule. Cascadia has developed formulations for a range of biostimulant products currently undergoing testing and trials, and we are nearing certification to unlock sales in select US states. To learn more about Sea-X, FieldKelp and RegenaGrow made with responsibly cultivated Sugar Kelp (Saccharina latissima) and Giant Kelp (Macrocystis tenuifolia), please reach out! #biostimulants #kelp #seaweed #CascadiaSeaweed #regenerativeagriculture #Naturebasedsolutions #growth #BCBusiness #Canada
