Imagine walking into a school where a vital teaching role has been vacant for up to four years. This was my reality in education over 15 years ago -- and it shook me to my core. I couldn't believe that there were schools and students that simply went without math teachers, science, and language teachers -- and what's worse was this was the "norm" in these districts. In underserved communities across the country, this is the reality. The impact of these teacher shortages is not just a temporary inconvenience—it’s a crisis that disproportionately affects Latino, African-American, and low-income students. These students often bear the brunt of this gap, leading to declining test scores and a growing sense of frustration among parents, families, and students. But it doesn't have to be this way. I’m committed to changing this narrative. In fact it was all those years ago that I vowed to be part of the solution and make sure that students everywhere receive the teachers they deserve no matter where they live and go to school. We at Proximity Learning understand the critical role education plays in shaping futures, and we’re dedicated to providing every student with the qualified teachers they deserve. Our mission is simple: bridge the gap, ensure equity, and make certain that no student is left behind due to a lack of educational resources. Education should be a right for all, not a privilege. 🌍📚 So proud of the work we do and the mission we took on. #EdTech #LiveVirtualTeachers #SynchronousIsBetter #VirtualLearning #InnovationInEducation #UnderServed #DiversityEquityInclusion #FutureOfLearning https://lnkd.in/guC8BiK5

I thank our Accelerate and ProvenTutoring friends for highlighting REACH’s work in their “Leveraging Community-Based Organizations: High-Dosage Tutoring Pilots in Review” report. We’ve seen success with our Liberator Model — which upskills parents and caregivers to become effective and paid tutors in the schools — because it’s all about putting parents in the driver’s seat to improve academic outcomes for children. We value measurable results — that’s the only way we know what we’re doing is working, and that’s the commitment we’ve made: only to do what works to improve outcomes for our children. Thanks to our partnership with the Center on Reinventing Public Education, we have data that speaks for itself: “Kindergarten students receiving small group SIPPS instruction by a [Liberator] had 38% higher growth than those not receiving any SIPPS instruction.” You can read the full Accelerate and ProvenTutoring report here:

Learning about the intersection of social justice, education, and technology is so important for future teachers like myself. Technology has the power to both empower and marginalize, so it's crucial to approach it through a lens of equity and inclusion. Some initial ideas I have for integrating these concepts include using tech tools to amplify diverse voices and perspectives that have been historically underrepresented. Leveraging digital platforms for student-led projects that tackle social justice issues. Ensuring accessibility of all educational technology for students with varying needs and abilities. The goal is to harness the potential of tech to create more just, inclusive learning environments. #EDLT3110_SP24_M71_R7

Education isn't just about classrooms. It's the heartbeat of thriving communities. As founder of The Ohio Education Foundation, I've seen firsthand how learning transforms lives: • STEM programs in underserved schools → students pursuing tech careers • Adult literacy classes → increased job readiness and civic engagement • Community learning centers → hubs of lifelong growth and connection But here's the real power: educated individuals become community catalysts. They start businesses. They volunteer. They innovate solutions to local challenges. It's a beautiful cycle of empowerment. What's one way education has strengthened your community? #CommunityDevelopment #EducationImpact #socialsonic
