"Live" report at HKTDC Consumer Electronics Show 15th April 2024! Today we start off with a discussion with our factories followed by finishing up level 5 and level 3 halls. Most of the product categories at level 5 are same as those found in Global Sources. There are alot more hong kong companies setup as agents for China factories. Among the new products some of the more interesting propositions are hydroponics home-based plant growth treatment tanks, pet products and solar power. At level 3 there's a huge showcase of China technologies with booths setup by different provinces. From Shandong to Xiamen to Shenzhen each showcasing their new technologies and solutions. Next we head down to level 1 where there are rows of booths. We managed to see one of our factory in Air Purifiers. #FocusChina The economic conditions in China have become more difficult for most German mechanical engineering companies in our industry. The Chinese economy is struggling, people are reluctant to spend money, and if they do, then only on highly selective investments. Without production sites in China, it is almost impossible to supply the Chinese market, especially for standard products. However, exceptions for special applications can still be found. According to those responsible for the China Glass trade fair, technology “Made in Germany” is still highly valued and our machine manufacturers are considered important economic partners. Nevertheless, I am skeptical. In addition to genuine price developments, future economic relations are dependent on so many things that companies on both sides cannot define and can only influence to a very limited extent. This is to cope with the significant evolution the company has been experiencing in the last years. The new headquarter will be spread over an area of 5500 m²: -2500 m² for Production and Warehouse departments; -600 m² offices located on two floors; -800 m² vehicle transit for loading and unloading goods: -1600 m² green area and internal parking. In order to meet the continuous market demand, the production capacity is going to be extended significantly by investing in latest generation automatic lathes, 5-axis milling machines with larger working tables. In addition, the pump test room will be upgraded by using latest generation equipments, software and a tank water capacity of 46,000 litres. The new production processes layout, the upgraded test station and the larger logistic area will contribute to improve the production time. The step change of the Affetti Pumps occurred thanks to the new R&D activities implemented since 2019 (it has now become an integral part of the development of the company's production program), together with the constant and valuable work done by the new commercial Management. "Born to Grow" was the slogan used in 2012 at the Chemical Exhibition (ACHEMA) which is held in Frankfurt (Germany). Rapid Growth Anticipated in Automotive Magnesium Demand, Magnesium Template Market Holds Great Potential The use of magnesium alloys in automotive lightweighting, compared to steel and aluminum alloys, offers superior weight reduction. Currently, China's per-vehicle magnesium usage lags behind Europe and America, but future demand for automotive magnesium is expected to rise significantly. According to projections, the consumption of magnesium alloy in China's automotive industry will reach 353,200 and 711,200 tons in 2025 and 2030, respectively, with raw magnesium consumption hitting 388,500 and 782,300 tons. The compound annual growth rate for domestic raw magnesium consumption from 2022 to 2030 is expected to be 21.70%. At present, domestic die-casting technology is relatively mature for small components, with future breakthroughs mainly anticipated in various types of bracket products. Additionally, the technology related to magnesium alloy construction templates has been fully developed and is set to begin mass supply soon. China is truly a leader in EVs and in battery manufacturing 🇨🇳 … but does Europe have to hide? 🇪🇺 A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit the CIBF in Chongqing, China, the world's largest trade show for automotive battery manufacturing. 1500 exhibitors and 6-figure attendance, impressive. And with good reason: China covers pretty much the entire supply and value chain all by itself. Entire exhibition halls dedicated to anode and cathode materials? ✔️ An entire hall dedicated to electrode manufacturing machinery? ✔️ Using AI and cobots to automate and perfect manufacturing? ✔️ For Germany and Europe, the halt or even cancellation of various battery projects is certainly a setback. Nevertheless, I believe that the European industry and its ecosystem have what it takes to compete. From battery manufacturers to machine builders to technology providers like Balluff EMEA, great technologies are being developed and strong partnerships are being formed. Industry associations like VDMA help bring everyone together and raise the visibility of one of the greatest industrial potentials we have, otherwise we risk losing touch with the leading players altogether.
