The Alfa Revival Cup enters its twelfth year, celebrating the glories of Alfa Romeo's past. The opening event will be held at Vallelunga from April 19-21. Alfa Romeo's sporting legacy fills volumes. It includes not only the pre-war international victories when it was Enzo Ferrari who raced them with his Scuderia, but also the two Formula 1 World Championships of 1950 and 1951, now in the distant past. However, it’s the countless successes in Touring, Grand Touring, Sports Prototype, and DTM races up until the new millennium that keep the passion for these iconic vehicles with the Quadrifoglio burning bright. Organized by Canossa Events, the Alfa Revival Cup brings back the competitive spirit and passion of historic racing. The event admits Touring, Competition Touring, Grand Touring, and Competition Grand Touring cars, as well as Special Production (Group 5 Silhouette) from 1947 to 1981, divided into classes based on period, category, and engine size. Alfa Romeo has built and raced many quintessential sports cars, and the starting grid of each Alfa Revival Cup race is the clear demonstration. The format, based on a single one-hour race, is designed to combine excitement, fun, and strategy, with two drivers having a pit stop window for the driver change, between the twentieth and fortieth minute. The stop, for safety reasons, is set at 60 seconds. Following each race, participants are ranked in two categories: overall and within their class. Points are also awarded based on a historical significance coefficient, which, when added together, will determine the final standings of the Championship. The series spans six events, kicking off at the Vallelunga Piero Taruffi circuit with free practice sessions on Friday and the qualifying rounds and race on Saturday, April 20. The agenda also includes challenging international venues such as Mugello, Misano World Circuit, and Austria's Red Bull Ring. Despite its amateur status, the Championship's organizing body guarantees a high-quality event. Leading teams, including OKP Racing, Jolly Squadra Corse and Formula GT offer outstanding technical and logistical support, ensuring that independent racers can compete without feeling at a competitive disadvantage. The same goes for the drivers, some of whom bring a wealth of expertise and impressive sports credentials. The Championship, organized under the guidance of CSAI and ACI Sport, enjoys support from sponsors such as Caffè Cagliari and OKP, the latter renowned for its quality and expertise in supplying parts for classic Italian brands, particularly Alfa Romeo. Over the years, OKP has evolved into a global benchmark for car enthusiasts, with over 10,000 items for Italian vehicles dating from 1950 to today. Its international logistics network not only supplies parts but also offers a range of accessories and lifestyle products. OKP's proactive involvement in racing underscores the superior quality and longevity of its parts.

Why Go-Kart Racing Deserves a Spot in the Olympics https://lnkd.in/eY_7PXgJ The Olympics just wrapped up. Over the last few weeks, you probably saw a lot of breakdancing, racewalking, and trampoline in your feeds. Shoutout to Raygun, by the way. But for all the weird and wacky events at this year's Olympics, one thing you didn't see in Paris was auto racing. Auto racing has never caught on at the Olympics, not that they haven't tried. At the 1900 Summer Olympics, Renault founder Louis Renault and a dozen or so other drivers raced around France in two-seat Citroens and Peugeots. Renault took home the gold and a lofty ₣4,000 cash prize. A second "Olympic Rally" took place during the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, with British racing driver Betty Haig in a Singer Le Mans and Swiss driver Paul Abt in a Riley Falcon both taking home golds. Unfortunately though, while the International Olympic Committee (IOC) acknowledges these races took place, the IOC doesn't recognize either of them as official events. And there hasn't been another attempt to bring motorsports to the Olympics in the 88 years since. In 2001, it seemed all hope was lost. The IOC all but banned motor racing in its updated charter. In chapter 5, a single line stated: “Sports, disciplines or events in which performance depends essentially on mechanical propulsion are not acceptable.” Thankfully, the IOC removed that rule in 2016 and the amended charter from 2023 makes no mention of it. The 2024 Formula 1 season Formula 1 has returned for its 75th running of the World Championship. The 2024 FIA Formula 1 World Championship started off on February 21, with three days of preseason testing at the Bahrain International Circuit, which will also host the first race of the season on March 2. This season will feature 24 Grands Prix in 21 countries across five continents, with the United States and Italy as the only countries hosting more than one race. The countries hosting the races are Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Japan, China, the U.S., Italy, Monaco, Canada, Spain, Austria, Britain, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi. Six of the races will feature sprint races: the Chinese, Miami, Austrian, U.S., Sao Paulo, and Qatar Grands Prix. The sprint weekend format was changed for this year’s season with the intention of separating the sprint events from the race events. This year, there will be one practice session on Friday that will be followed by a sprint shootout, which will determine the starting grid for the sprint. The sprint will then be held on Saturday, followed by a qualifying session for the main race. The main race will be held on Sunday. For the first time in the sport’s history, all teams maintained their driver lineups from the previous season. However, more than 10 of the drivers will be out of contracts with their teams at the end of the 2024 season. So far, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Oscar Piastri, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, and Max Verstappen are the only drivers who have secured team placements beyond the year. Two teams were rebranded: Alpha Tauri Honda RBPT and Alfa Romeo Ferrari. As Sauber prepares to become the Audi works team in 2026, they ended their partnership with Alfa Romeo in 2023. The team has now been rebranded to Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber for the next two seasons before a rebrand comes along again in 2026 as the Audi works team. The Alpha Tauri team was rebranded as the Visa Cash App RB F1 Team. Visa is now a global partner for both the Red Bull Racing team and Visa Cash App RB on a multi-year agreement. A few rules were changed for the 2024 season. This year, drivers are allowed to use DRS one lap after the race has started, on a safety car restart, or on a red flag restart. The power unit allocation per season was increased from three to four per driver. This year, the proposed trial for a ban on tyre blankets was cast aside. Pirelli will remain the official tyre supplier, but the “alternative tyre allocation” that was trialled last year will not be carried on this season. The C0 tyre compound, which was the hardest tyre in the dry tyre range, will not be included in the tyre line-up. And lastly, as a result of the cockpit overheating during last year’s Qatar Grand Prix, teams will be allowed to install a scoop on the car in order to cool down the cockpit area and the driver. #Formula1 #F1 #2024

What Madrid means for the future of the F1 calendar This week, Formula 1 confirmed Madrid would be joining the race calendar from 2026 on a 10-season deal, bringing into question the future of the current Spanish race in Barcelona. The country’s capital is set to be the next exciting addition, although the announcement hasn’t been received well by all fans, with some claiming the circuit lacks creativity. Discussions are understood to be underway to determine if the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will also remain on the calendar. The Spanish GP has always divided fans, with a common opinion being the circuit lacks overtaking opportunities and spectator thrills. Having two prominent Spanish drivers on the grid has increased the buzz around events in their home country, meaning two Spanish races wouldn’t be entirely out of the question. In the 2023 season, Carlos Sainz demonstrated rapid improvement, being the only driver outside of the Red Bull garage to bring home a GP win. His childhood hero Fernando Alonso has been an icon to Spanish fans since joining the grid in 2001, so it would be understandable if organisers optimised the fact both Spaniards are still part of the driver lineup. #F1 #Formula1 #FormulaOne #SpanishGP #Madrid https://lnkd.in/ekUkhp8W

RACE SERIES NEWS: New #rallying category added to #FIAMotorsportGames 2024 Rallying will be a major highlight at the #FIA Motorsport Games 2024 in #Valencia, Spain, on October 23-27. This edition will introduce a new All-Stars category, featuring top rally drivers, alongside the returning #Rally2, #Rally4 and Historic Rally categories. "Rallying can be a little different depending on the country," explained Carlos Sainz, the double FIA World Rally Champion and four-time #Dakar Rally winner. "Tarmac, for example, is not the most usual surface on continents like #Africa and #SouthAmerica. The FIA Motorsport Games was created to concentrate, during a single weekend, all the motorsport activity worldwide. For this, sporting regulations should encourage every country to be present, so I welcome this increase of categories, especially in rallying.” FIA road sport director Andrew Wheatley added, “Female and male competitors from around the globe, representing their national ASN in modern and historic cars, will be joined by the world's top rally drivers to compete in Spain, showcasing the depth, talent and incredible diversity within the rallying community. We are proud to build on the success of the 2022 edition with new features and expanded categories, which reflect our commitment to promoting dynamic competition in rallying." 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁-𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗘𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 Formula 1 𝗛𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 Imagine the roar of the engines, the blur of speed, and the adrenaline-fueled determination as five cars barrel towards the chequered flag, mere inches apart. The 1971 Italian Grand Prix wasn't just a race; it was the epitome of motorsport drama, showcasing the raw, unfiltered essence of Formula 1 racing. Held at the iconic Monza circuit, this grand prix is etched in history as the closest finish ever, with the top five contenders separated by a breath-taking 0.61 seconds. 𝗘𝗱𝗴𝗲-𝗼𝗳-𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿-𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 In an era where technological advancements and strategic pit stops were not as pivotal as today, pure driving skill and nerve were the orders of the day. The 1971 race exemplified this, with drivers pushing themselves and their machines to the absolute limit. The intense slipstream battle, a hallmark of Monza's long straights, saw positions change lap after lap, corner after corner. It was motorsport in its purest form - unpredictable, thrilling, and incredibly close. 𝗔 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗢𝗻 Today, the 1971 Italian Grand Prix serves as a reminder of the fearless spirit of racing, a testament to the drivers' skills, and the intense competition that defines Formula 1. It raises an important question about the evolution of the sport: In an age dominated by technological innovations, can modern F1 recreate the same level of close, competitive racing that fans witnessed at Monza in 1971? #Formula1 #ItalianGrandPrix #Monza #MotorsportHistory #RacingLegends What do you think? Can today's Formula 1 capture the same raw excitement and closely contested finishes that made races like the 1971 Italian Grand Prix legendary?
