The landscape of Carmel Mountain Ranch is now forever changed, as Lennar Homes continues development of The Trails at Carmel Mountain Ranch. This video is the latest in a series of drone flights we have commissioned to document the changes, and keep Carmel Mountain Ranch residents informed. Areas that have not been graded are remaining as open space and will be the responsibility of the new HOAs to maintain. Home construction is underway on units 1 and 16. You can see buildings just starting to take shape on units 8 and 9. The landscape of unit 7 and the northernmost portion of unit 15 have been drastically altered in preparation for the installation of city parks. Eastbourne Community Park will be completed first. The "Alante" building is under construction at the corner of Rancho Carmel Dr and Provencal Pl. This is separate from the Lennar project. This used to be a park-and-ride owned by the city of San Diego. When complete the Alante building will be 4 stories tall and home to about 50 apartments. The old CMR clubhouse still stands. This building was slated to be demolished back in December of last year. However, there are still communication utilities attached to the building. The relocation of those utilities has been delayed. We expect it to be torn down very soon. In total, there will be 701 for-sale homes built, and 125 for-rent units built (all rentals on unit 5). When the project is complete, a trail network over 5 miles long will connect the CMR community. And here we have a 2024-massive-car-park-fire, further extending the list of large fires in previous years... This one is exactly what we got few years ago in Warsaw, horrible. And I am tired of reiterating the same points and observations again and again and again. Let me try to make them concise: • 𝗟𝗼𝘄 𝗰𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 and faster fire spread between vehicles, and if the active systems are lacking (no sprinklers, no smoke control, no detection), it may lead to catastrophic outcomes [note - I have no idea if those systems were present or not, but I am capable of taking an educated guess on this :)] • 𝗪𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 the possibility of losing a large residential building due to a car park fire underneath it. Cost reduction in residential development is driving fire safety choices, often cutting on protection means. Fires are rare. Fires are not that big, right? • 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲-𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 that were managed by the fire brigade and only caused damage to neighbouring cars are a prevalent scenario in the statistics, but if the circumstances are right - the fire may cascade beyond size that is possible to control. Why? Cars are a perfect fuel source due to their plastic content, and enclosed well-ventilated space is perfect to support burning.  This process may be violent if there are no passive means (height) or active means (smoke control, sprinklers) to reduce the heat feedback. • 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 does not matter that much. When the fire grows to the size of multiple vehicles, there is no difference if there is an EV, PHEV or ICEV in there. My thoughts are with the families who's homes are in danger now. In Warsaw, the building was miraculously saved despite the massive damage. I hope this will be the case in here as well.
