Friday, May 24, 2024 Opportunities for goodness Some things you can change for the better, and others you can’t. Your effectiveness, your peace of mind, your levels of satisfaction and fulfillment depend on knowing the difference. If you can improve the situation, take action. If nothing you do will make a difference, move on to something else. Put your time and energy where they can make a positive contribution. Engage in pursuits that bring new value into the world. There’s never a good outcome when you spend your days filled with resentment and bitterness about what you can never change. You have too many opportunities to waste even a moment of your life with such negativity. Accept the reality of what has happened, of what is. Decide to identify meaningful portions of that reality where you can make a difference, and go to work. Always, there’s something good you can do. Let go of what’s beyond you, and let the available opportunities for goodness pull you forward. — Ralph Marston

Somone sent me this yesterday. So true. You see and hear this to much. 1 good worker that will go above and beyond will do more than 2 to 3 workers that maybe don’t care and have the Get paid. Go home attitude. What do people think? Lower your standards and working hours and Don’t take pride or give a shit? Go agency and get the hours on big jobs. (Less stress and worry) Or keep to your values and always take pride what you do and go above and beyond. (But have the stress and spend more time at work to get things done, and don’t get heard). What’s people’s thoughts on this?

Just know that whatever you do in your career you aren’t defined by that You are greater than that and bigger than that! If you got let go it isn’t a reflection of who you are If you are on a performance plan it isn’t a reflection of who you are If you’re struggling to get a new job it isn’t a reflection of who you are You are perfect, you are successful, you are abundant because that is who you are at your core If you feel you aren’t any of those it’s because you’ve believed lies that others have put in you Unlearning those lies and replacing them with truths will allow you to step into your power And it will shift your life situation Try getting back to who you truly are this weekend and stop buying into the lies we’re told

By now, many of our New Year's resolutions are distant memories. Here's the process I started seven years ago to achieve more of my annual goals. 1. I set the start of my year at February 22nd, my birthday. Made it more personal. 2. Made two lists: one of my actual priorities and another of what my priorities should be. They were quite different so I knew I had work to do. 3. Created a personal mission statement, landing on: My Mission is to fulfill my potential as a Christian, Family Man, Friend, Leader, Citizen, Athlete, Learner and Worker. 4. Set goals in each of the eight categories in my Mission Statement and made them measurable e.g. 30 date nights with my wife, connect with five new business contacts per week, etc. 5. Tracked my progress weekly and monthly. The result? The next 12 months were the most productive of my life on every level. No, I didn't hit all my targets, but I reached about 60%, motivating me to do even better the following year. Now, each February, I plan the year ahead and attack my goals on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. I fall off track plenty but, with this framework, I'm able to stay more focused - and productive - than ever before. If you're interested in doing something similar, give me a shout. Glad to share details of my experience and be a sounding board for you!
