Lessons learned from ultrarunning: focus ONLY on the next step. Founders, you need to do all the things, all the time. You see the big picture and it can get overwhelming. The challenge you’re facing today is not the challenging you’ll be facing tomorrow. One step leads to one mile. One mile leads to the next aid station. The next aid station leads to the next 20, 50, 100 miles. And each mile is a different experience. Each experience reveals strengths and grit and determination you didn’t realize you have. It’s cliche to say but the road really doesn’t get easier, you just get stronger, wiser and build an amazing network to help you through. My program, Building Traction on Linkedin is launching soon. My secret hack to "grabbing a coffee chat" when I've got 2 kids under 2 years old in tow is... I find interesting people who also have kids and invite them, their partner, and their kid(s) to family activities we can all do together. e.g. spend a couple hours at a kids' indoor playground. Adults get to chat (I mean, at 50% focus I'll take it!), AND the little kids get to enjoy. As an entrepreneur, I have to get creative, be inclusive, and be different than the norm. As a freelance accountant, I come across so many inspiring individuals running their own businesses. Larry Broughton's quote really resonated with me: "When we act with courage and when we act with integrity, that overshadows the insecurity we have about ourselves." It's true!
