Last week's Consumer Experience & Digital Health Forum (AHIP) was a great opportunity to see how the customer facing side of healthcare and insurance are adopting AI and Generative AI specifically. Here are a few takeaways: - While everyone is touting the promise of Gen AI, very few are using it in practice. As one tech exec on a panel noted, "Generative AI is a little scary for healthcare." - Lots of Insurers are weaving AI into their processes with most early AI gains coming in back office projects to simplify claims processing and speed prior approval. - Most Gen AI is being experimented with on the patient side, with programs for note taking and efforts to use Gen AI improve the patient intake process. Oscar Health's Duncan Greenberg is bullish on voice agents and believes we'll see our first direct Gen AI application (no copilot) in the market next year. (Please lord, let it be virtual agents to replace phone trees). - While he's bullish on Gen AI, Stanford's Robert Pearl thinks widespread use of the technology still is 3-5 years out for healthcare. But he's optimistic that the spotlight on Gen AI will finally force the healthcare industry to come to grips with its underlying data issues, which could help solve a core problem holding US healthcare back. #AHIP #AHIPDIGITAL #Healthcare #AI #GENAI #Insurance #oscarhealth #healthcareonlinkedin #generativeai

The complex interdependencies between stakeholders, misaligned incentives, and lack of unified leadership create a situation where no one owns the problem, and therefore, no one solves it. 🎯 That doesn't mean you do nothing; it means those issues that are aligned with your business must get tackled intelligently.
