Midland Development Corporation approved an agreement for the Texas Chapter of the Space Force Association to be headquartered located in Midland. The organization sees West Texas as a key player in the #aerospace industry. I am looking forward to taking part in next week's Space-Comm Expo panel discussion on Thursday 7 March around cybersecurity and national space capabilities alongside Chuck Brooks, Dr Sharon Lèmac-Vincere, Stefanie Grundner, and Richard G. Innovation is key in this area, and I will touch on innovations in securing RF signals and in encryption, like quantum key distribution (QKD) and post-QKD, as well as introducing zero trust through the implementation of technologies that allow low power smart contracts to include digital identity, change detection and added value creation. It is important that people recognize that space and terrestrial are not two separate worlds, but one! It is more and more about providing end-user services (to people and assets on the ground, in the air and even in space), and the approach to cybersecurity has to take that into consideration, implementing security by design across the full lifecycle, and including the supply chain. Europe is taking some important steps with the Cyber Resilience Act and the NIS2 directive, but organizations need to take actions themselves, using innovative techniques to provide the required levels of cybersecurity for space systems.
