We all know the feeling - we need to document every detail during a medical visit , leaving less time for face-to-face patient care. While I strongly believe we need to document everything, I also believe that we can come up with solutions that allow us to do both. The Center for Public Policy Solutions is proposing a solution! Their initiative aims to streamline billing and documentation regulations for chronic condition management and annual preventive visits. By expanding the definition of annual preventive visits to include chronic condition management, this initiative envisions a more comprehensive, less click-heavy visit for patients and their clinicians. Once the #pandemic was in full swing, #Medicare started paying doctors and other #healthcareproviders for e-visits. The e-visits are still an available service to patients, though few #olderadults still use the service, according to a new study that explores how the form of #telehealth was and is being used. The study was published this month in Health Affairs. https://lnkd.in/eih3qaBF

The costs to delaying healthcare only mount over time. My latest piece for GOBankingRates. Thanks to Alex Foxman, MD, FACP, DABOM and Thanu Jey for their excellent points. “Delaying medical care is a false economy,” Foxman said. “While patients may fear immediate costs, the long-term financial and health implications of delayed care are far more severe.” #healthcarecosts #healthcare #healthylivingtips #personalfinancetips

Big corporations are quietly taking over your medical practice. Some doctors and experts say it's ruining healthcare. Big businesses such as hospital systems, insurers, and PE firms are gobbling up medical clinics. Some doctors and industry experts fear corporate owners could prioritize profits ahead of patients. The federal government is dialing up scrutiny of PE firms and other corporate owners in healthcare. https://lnkd.in/g5eScsXh

The U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the bipartisan Lower Costs, More Transparency (LCMT) Act, a bill that strengthens and clarifies existing healthcare price transparency laws. While this is a great first step, the real issue lies in the lack of aggressive enforcement of existing regulations aimed at increasing transparency. According to a recent article, only 36% of American hospitals reviewed were fully complying with the Hospital Price Transparency Rule that went into effect on Jan 1, 2021. This begs the question: why isn't enforcement more aggressive? Hospitals and payers must not believe enforcement or penalties are a real threat. Patients deserve the information necessary to protect their health. What are your thoughts? #healthcare #priceTransparency #LCMTAct
