Exercise is great for the heart, but some types aren't ideal if you have a heart condition. According to Dr. Serwer, chief medical officer at VitalSolution, high-intensity workouts like heavy lifting can be risky. Instead, try light or moderate exercise that you enjoy and that won't strain your body. For more tips on heart-friendly workouts, check out the full article! https://lnkd.in/gqrUw8Eg #HeartHealth #ExerciseSmart
🏋️ While exercise is often good for the heart, certain kinds can be risky for people with heart conditions. In a recent article from Parade, Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, an interventional cardiologist and chief medical officer at VitalSolution, says high-intensity (HIIT) workouts—like heavy weightlifting or powerlifting—are a no-go if you have a heart condition. “This sudden, highly intense activity [can] cause blood pressure to shoot up four times the normal limit and places severe stress on the heart,” he explains. However, light and moderate weightlifting is usually fine. Dr. Serwer adds, "The best form of exercise is one which the person enjoys and an activity which does not exacerbate musculoskeletal conditions." A recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC Journals) reveals a troubling fact: nearly half of counties in the U.S. lack access to cardiologists. #Cardiology #CardiacCare #RuralHealth
A recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC Journals) reveals a troubling fact: nearly half of counties in the U.S. lack access to cardiologists. Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, a leading cardiologist and Chief Medical Officer at VitalSolution, shares how the situation impacts patients: “When a patient is having a heart attack, time matters. If a patient is unlucky enough to have a heart attack in a rural area, without cardiology services, they are sometimes transferred via ambulance or helicopter, but this takes time while the heart is dying.” Learn more about the survey's findings, including the causes for the disparity and possible solutions: https://lnkd.in/gkRtkTnj #Cardiology #CardiacCare #RuralHealth

A recent Cleveland Clinic study found that erythritol, a sugar alcohol used in low-sugar and low-calorie foods, especially in low-carb or "keto" diets, can lead to increased blood platelets and blood clot formation. Cardiologist Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, warned about the potential risks of artificial sweeteners like erythritol, noting their side effects on blood clotting. Other sugar substitutes, such as xylitol, have also been associated with negative health impacts. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gJzY7zZ5 #artificialsweeteners #sugarsubstitutes
A new study from Cleveland Clinic finds that erythritol, a sugar alcohol that is used to sweeten many low-sugar, reduced-calorie drinks and foods — particularly in low-carb or "keto" diets — was found to cause a spike in blood platelets and blood clot formation. Brad Serwer, MD FACC FSCAI, a cardiologist and chief medical officer at VitalSolution-Cardiology, was not involved in the study but said it raises "significant concerns." "Many artificial sweeteners have been studied and historically have been sold as healthy alternatives to sugar, but they have often been found to have significant side effects," he told Fox News Media. "There have been other studies showing that erythritol increases platelet activity, which leads to abnormal blood clot formation." Several other sugar substitutes, such as xylitol, have also been linked to adverse health consequences, according to Dr. Serwer. Read more about the study here: https://lnkd.in/d4zRvWeD
