Our latest research has uncovered an intriguing phenomenon: while adding copper to PEO coatings on zinc-aluminized steels elevates antifouling properties, it simultaneously decreases corrosion resistance. Through meticulous electrochemical analysis, including SVET examination, we've unraveled that the galvanic coupling with the substrate was the main reason for the detrimental effect of copper addition on the corrosion protection of the PEO coating. This study emerges from a fruitful collaboration between the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Padova (Italy), the Materials Science Department at the University of Mons (Belgium), and the Department of Biology at the University of Padova (Italy). This is due to a new industry-wide regulation that prohibits the use of the chemical TIB Finish CH06, which was previously used to give our products a protective coating against water staining. 🔄 What's Changing? IAE, have upgraded our passivation tank and will now be using an alternative polycoat finish. This new coating still ensures the same high level of durability and protection, but the final product will have a more natural galvanised finish. 🔧 What Stays the Same? Rest assured, our products will continue to be hot-dip galvanised to the highest standards, and their longevity will remain unaffected.
