#TriviaTuesday: How are countries around the world using #carboncapture and storage (#CCS) to accelerate #decarbonization? Last week, Germany announced the launch of a funding initiative worth $3.7 billion focused on facilitating the #decarbonization of its #industry sector. The funding will be directed towards solutions that reduce the #carbonfootprint of industry operations, including using #CCS to store captured #carbondioxide in offshore underground sites. The funding from this initiative, which aims to begin in September, will specifically support #carbonstorage for hard-to-decarbonize sectors, including #cement, #glass, and #ceramics. Learn more:

#NEW: In another example of the global recognition of the importance of #carboncapture and storage (#CCS), last week the Industry ministry of France issued a call for interest for #CCS at different sites to help #decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors in the country. This initiative aims to assist industries like #cement, #steel, and #aluminum production reduce their #carbonemissions. When announcing the initiative, France’s Industry minister emphasized the importance of #CCS technology and that time is of the essence, warning that in the "race to reach net zero by 2050, every year wasted is a setback for the planet." The minister also pledged to streamline permitting processes for installing #CCS equipment in factories. Learn more:

French industry minister Roland Lescure launched a call for interest in #carboncapture technology to help #carbon-intensive industries reduce #emissions. The goal is to assist top emitters such as #cement producers, #steelworks, and #aluminum factories in capturing #carbonemissions to mitigate #climatechange effects. Subsidies and investment aids are offered for machines utilizing carbon capture utilization and storage (#CCUS) technology, with a deadline for applications until the end of June. The initiative aims to simplify permitting processes for installing #CCUS technology in factories and plans to start the first #storage by 2027 after successful testing of various sites for capture and storage capacity. #decarbonization #ccs #carboncapture #netzero #France #orbcleantech https://lnkd.in/g7V5qgRJ

Good news! There are better, cheaper, and more effective ways to decarbonize #steel and #cement than #CCS. It’s a myth that #carboncapture is necessary for decarbonizing the steel and cement industry — a myth that the #fossilfuel industry is selling us even though it has no intention of investing in costly and ineffective #CCS projects. • Consider that NONE of the recent #DoE funding for demonstration projects to decarbonize steel and iron went to CCS projects; instead the money for demonstration went to green hydrogen. • Firms like Boston Metal are working on next-generation tech that would eliminate the need even for green hydrogen and could produce high-quality metals from many different metal oxide feedstocks. • The DoE funded two promising methods for demonstration, Brimstone and Sublime Systems cement, which already hold more promise than CCS. These new approaches eliminate the production of #CO2 from limestone, which accounts for more than half the emissions from conventional cement production.

Dive into the latest insights a from our economists - 🏗️ #Cement production is a major CO2 emitter, but innovative solutions can make it greener. Capturing and storing emissions is the most cost-effective way to significantly cut CO2 – although it may not be feasible for every site. Combining CCS with CO2-injections in concrete could be the winning ticket for achieving net-zero emissions ⚡ #CCS #greenhydrogen

What's not to love about this cool tech? Three things you should know! 👉1. Carbon Crunch: With CCC technology, we're not just trimming carbon emissions; we're slashing them by up to 99%. It's an industrial-sized step towards a carbon-neutral footprint. 👉2. Cleaner Air, Clearer Conscience: CCC goes beyond carbon, capturing the nasty culprits like sulfur oxides and mercury. The result? Air that's not just cleaner but kinder to our communities and our planet. 👉3. Water Wisdom: In our water-wise world, CCC is a standout, using far less water than traditional methods. It's the kind of conservation that quenches our environmental thirst. Embrace CCC, where every molecule matters and every conservation counts. This is sustainability for the long haul—let's make it count for generations. Way to go, Chart Industries, Inc. SES team 👏

In the UK, carbon capture and storage (CCS) will be used to decarbonise our industrial clusters. To do this, groups of geographically co-located high-emitting businesses will share infrastructure to decarbonise their operations making CCS affordable and accessible. Our deployment projects include Humber Zero, South Wales Industrial Cluster, Zero Carbon Humber, HyNet, Scotland's Net Zero Infrastructure (Scottish Cluster), Net Zero Teesside and the Northern Endurance Partnership. These projects are supporting the UK’s green transition in industry, advancing necessary technologies and creating local jobs. CCS is essential to the UK’s industrial clusters and decarbonises operations from key industries such as chemicals, oil refining, paper, cement, steel and iron, ceramics and glass. Find out more about the carbon capture and storage process, take a look at the below. #CarbonCapture #Storage #IndustrialClusters

Decarbonizing our economy will require significant efforts from the industrial sector. And, moving the steel industry closer to a zero emission position is closer to reality..."Green steel requires a daunting, but not impossible, amount of renewables." It's exciting to see the innovation starting to take place in the steel industry and thanks for your part in working with one company in the industry Nick Kemp and Jenny Oorbeck! #decarbonization #steelindustry #greenhydrogen #greensteel #netzeroeconomy #climatesolutions #climateinvestment
